Roos late inning rally attempt came up just short in game two
GRAND FORKS, ND - Kansas City Softball (4-27, 1-6) dropped both games of the Saturday doubleheader to North Dakota (19-18, 4-4), falling 4-1 in game one and 4-3 in game two. The Roos were aided by a seven-walk outing and Riley Bebb's complete game in the first contest of the day. Game two saw the Roos nearly complete a late rally with Woods going two for three with a solo home run and RBI single.Â
GAME 1 KEY MOMENTSÂ
- Top 1 / 0-0 | Kansas City started off on the right foot with Chloe Kohnhorst roping a single into the right field grass to get the Roos a leadoff base runner in the first inning.Â
- Top 6 / 1-4 | Following Sabrina Rogers reaching second base off a North Dakota throwing error, the Roos cashed in the run due to Giannia Lickel slapping a flyball the opposite way. Rogers tagged and scored from third base and Lickel racked up her fifth RBI of the season off the well placed sacrifice fly.Â
- Bottom 6 / 1-4 | Bebb continued to acquire outs late into the game, throwing strike three right by Hailey Bethune of the Fighting Hawks. It was Bebb's fourth and final strikeout in what was her third complete game of the season.Â
GAME 2 KEY MOMENTS
- Bottom 1 / 0-0 | After giving up a leadoff base runner, Hannah Burks forced North Dakota's Makenna Alexander to ground into a 6-4-3 double play. The double play was orchestrated by Derika Castillo making a fantastic flip at second to Rogers who then hurled a throw over to Katie Noble at first base for out two.Â
- Top 5 / 1-3 | Woods brought a jolt to the Kansas City offense in the fifth inning, depositing a solo home run over the left field fence to bring the Roos within a pair of runs. Woods rocketed her first home run of the season and fourth since joining the Roos in 2024.Â
- Top 6 / 2-4 | The Roos got runners into scoring position thanks to Leilani Bustamante's leadoff double and Kohnhorst's single to put her at third. Following a base on balls by Rogers, first baseman Noble drew a walk to plate the Roos second run of the game.Â
- Top 6 / 3-4 | Woods continued to do damage to the Fighting Hawks with her bat, poking a single into the outfield grass which scored Payton Schnoor to make it a one run game.Â
