PEORIA, Ill. - A new-look Kansas City Volleyball squad started the season in the win column, taking a five-set victory over Miami (OH) to kick off the Bradley Invitational. Returners Odyssey Warren and Raina Smith led the Kansas City attack with 14 and 11 kills, respectively, but three newcomers had at least five kills.

KEY MOMENTS

S1 / 12-9 | The Roos gained an early advantage in the first set with a pair of kills by Smith.
S1 / 20-23 | After the RedHawks jumped in front by as many as six, a kill by Smith pulled the Roos within three, but Miami won the next two points and took the first set.
S2 / 13-14 | A slow start saw Kansas City fall behind 12-2, but the Roos used an 11-1 run, capped by a block from Georgia Mullins and Carly Gillen, to pull back within a point.
S2 / 19-18 | The Roos pulled in front on a Mullins kill and never looked back, tying things up at a set apiece.
S3 / 13-11 | After trading points to begin the third set, a kill by Rachel Sturdevant sparked a seven-point Kansas City run.

The Roos start the season 1-0 for the sixth time in the past eight seasons.
Kansas City finished with 12 blocks on the day, which is just one below their season-high of 13 blocks last year.
