Kansas City Opens Season with Two Wins at Stacheville Challenge

The Roos earned wins over Jackson State and UT Martin in the first weekend of the year
CLARKSVILLE, Tenn. - Kansas City Volleyball opened the 2026 season with a pair of wins Friday before closing the Stacheville Challenge with a loss to host Austin Peay on Saturday.
The Roos (2-1) began the weekend with a 3-0 (25-14, 25-23, 25-22) sweep of Jackson State. Kansas City hit .248 and held the Tigers to .124 while finishing with nine aces and nine blocks. Ryanne Wattree paced the attack with eight kills on .316 hitting, while Stella Smith added seven kills at a .462 clip. Chloe Kaminski collected 19 digs and three aces, and Emry Brown and Hannah Wayment each contributed four blocks.
Kansas City returned Friday afternoon to outlast UT Martin in five sets, 3-2 (16-25, 25-19, 28-26, 24-26, 15-11). Wattree recorded a match-high 16 kills, and Brown followed with 15 kills on .297 hitting. Kaminski anchored the team's 71-dig effort with 30, while Mia Weaver posted 14 digs, nine kills and three aces. Savy Repinski and Coco Buschhorn distributed 28 and 22 assists, respectively, and the Roos finished with 10 service aces.
Austin Peay handed Kansas City its first loss Saturday, winning 3-0 (25-19, 25-16, 26-24). Wattree remained efficient with a match-high 10 kills and no errors on 21 swings for a .476 hitting percentage. Brown supplied nine kills and eight digs, while Weaver led the Roos with 15 digs and added seven kills. Kaminski added 12 digs and two aces as Kansas City pushed the final set beyond regulation.
Wattree led Kansas City across the three matches with 34 kills and a .352 hitting percentage. Kaminski totaled 61 digs and seven aces, Weaver combined 21 kills with 44 digs and five aces, and Brown finished with 31 kills. Repinski directed the offense with 69 assists and added four aces.
The Roos travel to Miami (OH) to play next weekend in the Miami/Best Western Invitational.
