Kansas City Adds Andy Mueller as Associate Head Coach

Mueller brings head coaching experience to the Roos sideline
KANSAS CITY, MO - Kansas City Volleyball and Head Coach Christi Posey have officially announced the hiring of Andy Mueller as associate head coach. Mueller brings more than 15 years of collegiate coaching experience to Kansas City, including three seasons as a Division I head coach.
In his role with the Roos, Mueller will coordinate recruiting strategy, assist with all training sessions and game-day management and oversee alumni relations, community outreach and collaboration across the athletics department.
"The opportunity to work with Christi Posey was one of the biggest reasons I chose Kansas City," Mueller said. "I've admired the way she leads — with integrity, competitiveness and a genuine investment in the people around her. Being part of building something alongside a staff and student-athletes that I respect so much was an opportunity I couldn't pass up.
"It also feels special to call Kansas City home. Over the years, this city has become my adopted hometown, and having the chance to invest in the community that's meant so much to me makes this opportunity even more meaningful."
Mueller arrives in Kansas City after spending the 2025 season as an assistant coach at Memphis, where he served as the Tigers' offensive coordinator and lead coach for setters.
Before joining Memphis, Mueller spent three seasons as the head coach at Iona. He guided the Gaels to the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference Championship in each of his three seasons, including a trip to the tournament's second round in 2024 following a first-round upset of fifth-seeded Sacred Heart. Iona earned the No. 3 seed in the 2022 tournament, its highest since 2018.
Mueller coached seven all-conference honorees during his tenure at Iona. Hope Matschner was named the MAAC Libero of the Year and earned First Team All-MAAC honors twice under his direction. She led the NCAA in total digs in 2023 after leading the nation in digs per set in 2022. Outside hitter Mija Jegers was also selected to the MAAC All-Rookie Team in 2024.
Prior to Iona, Mueller served as an assistant coach at Long Island University, helping the Sharks achieve what was then the highest conference winning percentage in program history. His coaching experience also includes assistant coaching positions at Columbia and Fordham, along with head coaching stops for the Brooklyn College women's volleyball program and St. Francis College men's volleyball program.
Mueller began his collegiate coaching career as an assistant at Columbia College. During his three seasons with the Cougars, the program compiled a 119-3 record and produced multiple NAIA All-Americans. Columbia advanced to the NAIA national championship match in 2010 and returned to the national semifinals in 2011.
A Missouri native, Mueller earned first-team all-conference honors at Francis Howell Central High School in 2005. He played two seasons of club volleyball for Missouri Thunder before playing collegiately at Lindenwood in 2006.
Mueller graduated from Columbia College with a Bachelor of Arts in history and currently resides in Kansas City.
