The Roos will look to win their first postseason championship in program history
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - After a successful regular season and a plethora of individual honors, Kansas City Volleyball looks to extend its season in Vermillion, S.D., as it takes the number four seed into the Summit League Championships.
Kansas City Notes
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City enters the Summit League Championships hot, having won their final four games of the regular season, including a pair of 3-1 wins on the road at Denver and at home against Omaha.
- Four Roos, De'Janae Arnold, Melanie Brecka, Maddie Renn and Alli Schomers, were named First Team All-Summit, the most in a single season in program history. The previous high was three, notched by the 2014 Roos.
- Kansas City's 21 wins are the most since the 2018 Roos went 21-11, and mark the second-most in program history.
- In addition, the Roos won 12 conference games in the regular season, the fourth year in-a-row breaking double digits. Kansas City had broken double-digit wins in conference play just three times in program history before the current streak.
- En route to their fourth seed at the Summit League Championships, the Roos won a match over eight of their nine Summit League opponents. They went for two wins over North Dakota State, North Dakota, St. Thomas and Western Illinois.
- After dropping the first set, Kansas City won three-straight sets against Denver in their final road game of the regular season. They were the first three sets won against Denver in program history.
- Kansas City enters the conference tournament as the fourth seed or higher for the fourth season in-a-row, and the sixth of Coach Christi Posey's 11-year tenure.Â
- Alli Schomers, who is arguably the most prolific passer in Kansas City history, currently ranks 16th in the nation and earned the top mark in the Summit with an 11.03 assists per set average. Schomers is just four assists away from taking over the number one spot in school history since the switch to rally scoring.
- One of the most dangerous serving teams in the nation, the Roos average 1.60 aces per set, ranking second in the Summit and 67th in Division One. Melanie Brecka and Kennedy Schritenthal both ranked in the league's top-five in aces per set.
- Kansas City's back line, led by Summit League Defensive Player of the Year Maddie Renn, averages 16.12 digs per set, the 60th-highest mark in the nation. Renn averages a league-leading 4.62 per set, which ranks 62nd in Division One.
Oral Roberts Notes
- The Roos and Golden Eagles split their two regular season meetings, with both teams defending their home floors.
- The Roos swept ORU in their first meeting on Oct. 9. Kansas City sent across seven aces on the day, compared to the Golden Eagles' zero. Bree Thompson and Odyssey Warren both reached double-digit kills for the Roos.
- The Golden Eagles took the win in the second matchup on Nov. 6. The Roos once again held the advantage in the serving game, but this time ORU out-blocked KC 13-7. Melanie Brecka sent across a season-high 25 kills in the loss.
- The Roos and Golden Eagles have met four times previously in postseason play, with ORU taking the win all three times. This will be the first time that Kansas City holds a higher seed than Oral Roberts.
Postseason History
- The Roos are looking for their first trip to the NCAA Tournament in program history.
- KC holds an 0-5 record all-time as the fourth seed.
- Kansas City is looking for its first postseason victory since a sweep of Seattle U in the 2019 WAC Tournament.
