Two players named to all-tournament team
Oxford, O.H. - The Kansas City Volleyball team traveled to Miami (Ohio), to take part in the Miami/Best Western Invitational going 2-1 on the weekend, earning wins over Evansville and Purdue Fort Wayne while falling to the host Miami (Ohio).
Kansas City opened the weekend to a 3-1 win over Purdue Fort Wayne (17-25, 25-19, 25-22, 25-16). Ryanne Wattree led the Roos with 16 kills hitting .429 in addition Emry Brown added an additional 13 kills and a season high nine blocks. Stella Smith also added nine blocks, Savvy Repinski controlled the offensive with 23 assists. On the defensive side Chloe Kaminski (13 digs) and Coco Buschhorn (14 digs) lead the charge. As a team Kansas City recorded 49 kills and 18 blocks while holding Purdue Fort Wayne to a .088 hitting percentage.
Later in the night Kansas City fell to the host team Miami (Ohio) falling 3-0 (25-18, 25-17, 26-24). Wattree and Brown lead the charge offensively both putting up 11 kills while hitting at a .333 clip. Repinski recorded 19 assists, and Buschhorn finished with 12 digs. The Roos totaled 36 kills while hitting .137.
Kansas City closed the tournament Saturday Morning with a 3-1 win over Evansville (26-24, 23-25, 25-14, 25-19). Wattree had her best performance of the weekend with 19 kills while hitting .486. Brown added 11 kills and Mia Weaver contributed to both the offensive and defensive load with 10 kills and 12 digs. Kaminski anchored the defensive with 24 digs, while Repenski recorded a weekend high 28 digs. As a team Kansas City hit .319, including an impressive .519 mark in the third set, finishing the game with 55 kills as a team.
Wattree and Brown were both named to the Miami/Best Western Invitational all tournament team. Wattree finished the weekend with 46 kills at a .429 clip, 4.6 kills per set, and 6 blocks. Brown finished with 33 kills, 9 blocks, 15 digs, and one serving ace on the weekend.Â
Kansas City kicks off their home slate this weekend with the Kansas City Classic Sept. 11-12 to host Radford, Utah Valley, and Drake as part of their four team tournament.
