Wattree shines against Utah Valley with 22 Kills
Kansas City, - MO The Roos (5-3) were back home , hosting the Kansas City Klassic tournament, and won their first match 3-1 against the 2-6 Redford Highlanders. (25-21, 23-25, 25-18, 25-17)
Kansas City sophomore outside hitter Emry Brown led the team with 16 points and 15 kills while hitting at an efficient .333 clip. The Roos also had strong outings from junior right side hitter Ryanne Wattree and sophomore middle blocker Stella Smith who both registered 13.5 points. Wattree had the most attacks with 40 attacks and posted 13 kills. Smith had a total of 9 kills off of 19 attacks which led the team with a .474 hitting percentage. Freshman Savy Repinsky led the team with the most assists in the match with 25. The 5th year senior Chloe Kaminski put up 19 digs, which was the most for the Roos.Â
As a team, the Roos finished the match with 53 kills, 142 total attacks while shooting .268 mark, 48 assists, 64 digs, 14 blocks and scored 72 points.
The second match for the Roos they went up against the Utah Valley Wolverines, falling 3-2. It was an entertaining match as the Roos had their backs against the wall dropping the first two sets 25-19 and 25-18. Then they got back some momentum winning the third set 25-21. The Roos rallied in the 4th set, winning 25-20 to force a 5th set, but lost 15-11 in the last set.Â
Wattree stood out in this match as she led the team in kills with 22 on 43 attacks and recorded a shooting percentage of .326 and had a total of 22.5 points. Smith and Mia Weaver both finished the match with 9 kills. All three players had 40 or more attacks. On the defensive side of things, Kaminski put up a staggering 26 digs, which led the team.Â
As a whole, Kansas City had 57 kills, 186 attacks with a .118 shooting percentage, 51 assists, 90 digs and 71.0 points.
In the closing match of the weekend the Roos fell 3-2 to Drake University. The offense attack was lead by Wattree with 16 kills followed by Natalie Patek with 8 and Emry Brown with 7.Â
Kansas City continues there home stint next week at Swinney hosting the Battle for Missouri September 18th & 19th.
