Roos Drop First Home Game by 2-1 Score

KANSAS CITY, Mo. – In the 86th minute, Creighton's Kylin Grubb converted a rebound for the game-winner and the Bluejays (6-1-0) defeated Kansas City Women's Soccer (5-1-2) by a 2-1 score tonight at Durwood Soccer Complex. The home loss is a first for the Roos as they entered the contest 5-0-0 at Durwood.
The home-standing Roos did their best to protect their home turf as the Bluejays entered tonight defeating three Power5 programs earlier this year.
"I'm disappointed in the loss but proud of the overall team effort," said head coach Chris Cissell. "Creighton has a really good team this year and it was a really good, even match. That was our first loss at home in quite some time, so that is disappointing, especially in front of such a great crowd. But we will learn from this, we will bounce back and get better."
The game was very physical from the start, ending with a combined 23 fouls and four yellow cards.
Creighton's Jordy Rothwell started the scoring in the 45th minute – just 16 seconds prior to halftime. The teams traded scoring opportunities, but both goalkeepers came up with big saves until the 75th minute.
Kansas City's Carly Janike lasered in a shot from about 35 yards out after she took a free-kick pass from Abby Small. The long-distance goal tied up the score at 1-1.
However, Grubb's heroics, with an assist going to Ansley Atkinson, was the difference-maker.
The Creighton unit held a 7-3 advantage in shots on goal.
