Kansas City Women's Soccer has advanced to the Summit League Semifinals for the second time in program history following a victory over South Dakota last weekend. The Roos move on to play the tournament's top seed, Oral Roberts in a semifinal match on Thursday evening.
The Roos advanced behind a 16th-minute goal from Summit League First Team honoree Olivia Platt, her eighth goal of the year. Since Oct. 12, Platt has scored five goals, going for at least one in four of KC's last six games.
Anika Patton put on a strong performance in goal on Sunday, making three saves and tallying the first clean sheet of her collegiate career. Patton has started in each of the last eight games for Kansas City, averaging 3.0 saves per game in that period.
The Roos are appearing in the conference semifinals for the ninth time in program history, seven of which came as members of the Western Athletic Conference. The Roos hold a 4-4 all-time record in semifinal matches, their lone appearance in the Summit semis was a 2-1 loss to North Dakota State in the 2011 season.
Kansas City has tallied nine wins this season and has ensured a winning percentage above .500, both of which rank as the best of Head Coach Jess Smith's six-year tenure.

Oral Roberts Notes

Oral Roberts grabbed the number one seed heading into the conference tournament behind a 6-1-1 Summit record, finishing level in the standings with Denver.
The Golden Eagles are led by Summit League Offensive Player of the Year Julia Thasaphong, who has tallied six goals and six assists on the year.
Four ORU players were named first team all-league, with one on the second team and two on the honorable mention list.
The Golden Eagles lead the all-time series between these two teams, 12-3-2 and have won eight-straight meetings.
This is the second postseason meeting between ORU and KC, the first coming in the 2023 Summit Quarterfinals. ORU claimed a 2-1 victory in that game.
