The Kansas City Volleyball team will travel to Chicago on Friday to take on Chicago State at 7 p.m.
Overview
- Kansas City opened WAC play with a 2-1 start, sweeping CSU Bakersfield (25-17, 25-19, 25-14) and California Baptist (25-20, 25-20, 25-18) and falling to Grand Canyon (25-21, 25-16, 21-25, 25-22).
- The Roos earned their first WAC Player of the Week Award, as Ty Lukes was named Offensive Player of the Week for Sep. 23-29. She averaged 3.5 kills per set on .500 hitting in victories over CSUB and CBU.
- At the midway point of the season, Alicia Harrington is on pace for 298 kills, which would give her 1,262 on her career. That would move her from her current position of sixth, up to third in the program career kills record book.
- Alli Schomers has had 30+ assists in the last six matches, the first such streak for a Roo since Kaylyn Brandt did it in 10 straight matches from 9/2/16-9/23/16.
Scouting Chicago State
- Like the Roos, the Cougars boast a balanced attack across the board. They are led by Beatriz Palmieri, who averages 2.76 kills per set. She is followed closely by Josi Borum and Nailah Jones (2.33 kps) and Kirah Shepherd (2.10 kps).
- Chicago State currently ranks second in the WAC in digs per set, averaging 15.65. This will prove interesting as they face the Roos, who are hitting .227 on the season. Megan Klavitter leads the conference in digs per set, and will stay busy against the deep attack of Kansas City.
- Palmieri is fourth among all WAC players in total kills, totalling 182. Her 2.76 kps is up from a 2.37 average last season.
