UMKC Falls to Aggies, 3-2

LAS CRUCES, N.M. – After jumping out to a 2-0 lead in the match, UMKC volleyball dropped three-straight sets to fall to the reigning Western Athletic Conference champion New Mexico State Aggies, 3-2 on Thursday.
UMKC (10-9, 3-3 WAC) won the first set 25-23, holding the Aggies (16-4, 6-0 WAC) to a team hitting percentage of just .122. The Roos were led by freshman Alicia Harrington (Cedar Falls, Iowa) with four kills in the set.
The Roos then took set two 26-24, hitting .289 as a team in the set. Senior Madison Mosier (Lee's Summit, Mo.) tallied five kills, and fellow senior Kaylyn Brandt (Sumner, Iowa) notched 15 assists. Harrington and junior Devan Porter (Bettendorf, Iowa) each added four kills in the game.
New Mexico State held UMKC to a .100 hitting percentage in the third set, handing the Roos their first loss of the match, 25-17. UMKC tallied just 10 kills in the set, led by Porter with three.
The Aggies took another close set, winning 27-25 in the fourth. The Roos were held to a .073 hitting percentage, with freshman Mykal Sadler (Des Moines, Iowa) picking up a team-high three.
The Roos lost the deciding set 15-12 and were held to a negative hitting efficiency, tallying just three kills in the game, two from senior Emma Hagedorn (Parkville, Mo.) and one from Mosier.
UMKC is back in action on Saturday, Oct. 15, facing UT Rio Grande Valley in Edinburg, Texas, at noon CT.
