
Kangaroos Fall 3-1 At North Dakota State

(Kansas City, Mo.) - The Kansas City volleyball team fell 3-1 on Saturday night in Fargo, N.D., to North Dakota State at the Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse despite 14 kills each from senior Emily Lucas and freshman Emma Hagedorn.
Lucas added 11 digs in the contest for her ninth double-double of the season, while Hagedorn hit .357 for the 'Roos with a team-high three blocks. Fellow freshman Skyler Muff, meanwhile, finished with 13 kills and matched Hagedorn for the team lead with three blocks.
The loss drops the Kangaroos to 12-8 overall and 5-3 in The Summit League, while the Bison improve to 7-11 overall and 4-4 in league play.
In the opening set, the 'Roos held a 12-11 lead midway through the set after a Lucas ace and three errors by the Bison, but could not hold the lead, falling 25-16.
North Dakota State then extended its lead with a 24-19 win in set two, taking a 2-0 advantage into the intermission.
Coming out of the break, the Kangaroos cut the lead in half with a hard fought 29-27 third set victory. In the set, UMKC again fell behind, trailing by as many as four twice, including late at 24-20. Facing match point, the 'Roos got a pair of kills from freshman Jessica Hendin and one from junior Chloe Jarema during a 4-0 run to tie the set at 24. The score would remain tied six points later before a kill by Muff and an ace from Hendin ended the set.
The Kangaroos, though, could not complete the comeback, dropping the fourth set 25-21 to fall 3-1 in the match.
For the 'Roos, Hendin recorded nine kills and 16 digs, while freshman Taryn Miller added a team-high 26 digs. Freshman Nicole Wemhoff, meanwhile, led the team with 28 assists and senior Ella Meier chipped in 17.
The Blue & Gold will back in action again on Friday when they return to Kansas City for a 7 p.m. match against Western Illinois at the Swinney Recreation Center.
