The 'Roos opened the match with a 25-19 first set victory, using an 11-2 run midway through the set to take a 15-6 lead. WIU would close to within four at 18-14, but freshman Skyler Muff and Lucas recorded the final two points on kills to put the 'Roos ahead 1-0.
UMKC would extend its lead to 2-0 with a 25-21 second win after trailing 10-7 early in the set. The Kangaroos, though, battled back to take their first lead of the set at 16-15 on an ace from sophomore Morgan Voorhes before taking the set with a 3-1 run over the final four points.
In the third and final set, Kansas City again fell behind early, trailing 8-4 after 12 points. A 6-2 rally, started by a pair of Lucas kills, however, pulled the 'Roos even at 10. WIU stretched its lead back to two at 12-10, but eight of the next 10 points went UMKC's way, putting them in front by four. Western Illinois would use one last run to pull to within two late at 23-21, but a kill by freshman Emma Hagedorn and a WIU error gave the 'Roos the 3-0 win.
Defensively, Muff recorded a team-high six of the Kangaroos' 8.5 blocks, while adding five kills with a team-best .333 attack percentage.
Offensively, Hagedorn recorded seven kills and Sydney Crimmins added five, while setters Nicole Wemhoff and Ella Meier finished with 19 and 17 assists, respectively.
