It was Rideout's third overtime game-winner this season, all of which have come in conference play. It also marked his third career two-goal game, and moved his career goal tally to 14, tied for 11th all-time at UMKC. In addition, it was the first time since 2003 that Kansas City has recorded five wins in league play, and only the second ever under head coach Rick Benben.
The Kangaroos (7-8-2, 5-1 SL) generated two scoring chances in the first half, with the first coming off a free kick from the left side by senior David Sarabia, but IUPUI (6-9-2, 3-3 SL) goalkeeper Jess Clark was up to the task for a save. He was also tested on a header by junior Tom Gaus from eight yards out, later in the half.
IUPUI out-shot the 'Roos by a 5-2 clip in the half, but forced goalkeeper Connor Sparrow to make only one save.
The second period saw the pace pick up, with Kansas City pushing it. The 'Roos out-shot the Jags 7-3, and looked as if it was going to come out on top after Rideout headed home a long ball sent into the box from defender Jeffrey Stezovsky in the 83rd minute.
The Jaguars fought back though, grabbing the equalizer on a cross from the right side by Adam Mills to Ian Block, who got a head on it in the 87th minute. Rideout looked to have the game-winner less than a minute later, but he header went off the crossbar, coming just inches from ending it.
In the first overtime period, the 'Roos controlled the ball, but couldn't finish any opportunities. They ended it with just less than two minutes to play in the second OT stanza though. Junior Zach Balthazar took a through ball into the middle of the box, and held possession from a Jaguar defender. He then saw an overlapping Rideout, and pushed it behind him for the one-time finish in the 109th minute.
Kansas City will hit the road for its final regular season game next Saturday when it faces Western Illinois in Macomb at 1:00 p.m. The 'Roos will have a chance to clinch at least a share of the Summit League regular season title with a win.
