UMKC Volleyball Falls 3-0 to South Dakota
(Vermillion, S.D.) - The UMKC volleyball squad dropped a 3-0 (25-16, 25-16, 25-20) match to South Dakota on the road Saturday night in Vermillion in Summit League action
The Coyotes (7-7, 3-1 Summit) have won six of seven matches, while UMKC fell to 6-8 overall and 0-4 in the Summit League.
The Coyotes hit .381 for the match, compared to .170 for the Kangaroos. Chloe Jarema had a team-high seven kills, while setter Ella Meier had a team-best 11 digs in the match.
USD made an early run to take control. The first set was tied at 3-3 before the Coyotes scored nine straight points to build a 12-3 lead.
UMKC cut the gap to 16-8, but the Coyotes rattled off four straight points to push the lead to 20-8. They would cruise to a 25-16 set win.
It was more of the same in the second set. South Dakota led 5-4 before going on a 10-2 run to push the lead to 15-6.
The third set was a different story. UMKC took a 16-11 lead, but the Coyotes came back to take the lead at 19-18. South Dakota led 21-20 before scoring the final four points of the set to clinch the set.
The Kangaroos continue conference play on Friday when Western Illinois comes to town for a 7:00 p.m. match at Swinney Recreation Center.
