Senior Elizabeth Beck led the 'Roos with 10 kills, while junior setter Ella Meier notched her fourth consecutive double-double with 24 assists and 13 digs.
In the match, UMKC took an early 5-1 lead in the first set before the Bison battled back to tie the set at nine. At that point, NDSU went on an 11-2 run to take a 20-11 lead before scoring five of the final seven points for the 25-14 first set victory.
In the second set North Dakota State pushed their lead to 2-0 with a 25-16 win heading into the intermission.
UMKC did not go away quietly, as the 'Roos cut the Bison lead in half with a 25-17 third set win. In the set, the 'Roos opened up a 5-1 lead after an ace from senior Kelsey Knoche. North Dakota State then cut the UMKC lead to three at 11-8, but back-to-back kills from senior Christiana McQuin and Knoche and a NDSU error pushed the lead back to six for the 'Roos. After an NDSU point, the Kangaroos reeled off seven of the next 11 points, including three kills from Beck, to take a 21-13 lead. The Bison closed the gap to six, but kills from Meier and junior Brittany Fossier, along with a Kerkman ace helped seal the UMKC victory.
In the fourth set, the Bison built a 5-0 lead on the 'Roos, but after a UMKC timeout, the squad went on a 10-4 run to take a 10-9 lead midway through the set. North Dakota State though would not be denied as the Bison went on a 7-0 run before taking the set 25-20 and the match 3-1.
For the 'Roos, Knoche finished with seven kills, while McQuin and junior Emily Lucas each had five. At the net, McQuin led the way with four blocks, while Fossier added three.
The Blue & Gold will be back in action again on Friday when they visit Oakland in a Summit League contest at 6 p.m.
