Roos To Watch
- Amari Eugene - After finishing the Summit League Indoor Championships with a bronze medal thanks to a 21.59 time in the 200-meter dash, Eugene has only improved on his status in the 200m this spring. The freshman ran a 200m time of 21.40 at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita and followed that up with a 20.90 at the John McDonnell Invitational, marking the first sub-21 second 200m time of his collegiate career. Eugene's 20.90 also ranks second best in the conference, only trailing his teammate Lanham.Â
- Tory Lanham - Lanham has set a personal record for the 100, 200 and 400-meter dashes this spring, the latter two of which are program records. The sophomore's latest bid came at the USD Tune Up, where Lanham ran a 47.14 in the first 400m race of his collegiate career. The time ranks as the second best mark in the conference this outdoor season. Lanham's 200m best of 20.59 still rates in as the top time in the Summit League and is tied for the 34th best 200m mark in the entire country. Â
- Nahshon Houston - Houston is right back in contention for the best men's long jumper in the conference as the Summit League Outdoor Championships quickly approach. The senior won the gold medal at the conference indoor championship meet a few months ago, leaping a mark of 7.39 meters in the long jump. In the outdoor season, Houston's best effort came in the form of a 7.45 meter mark at the KT Woodman Classic, a career-best jump for the senior and the fourth best mark in the conference.Â
- Jacky Perez-Vela - In her freshman campaign, Perez-Vela has become a surprise star sprinter on the women's side for the Roos. In the 400-meter dash, Perez-Vela ran a time of 55.47, putting her fourth in the women's outdoor Kansas City T&F record book. Her 55.47 time is also the eighth best time in the conference, making Perez-Vela a serious contender to become a finalist and compete for a medal come the Summit League Outdoor Championships. Â
- Alanie Rivera - In the women's 800-meter dash, Rivera set a personal record with a time of 2:12.73 at the John McDonnell Invitational a couple of weeks ago. The time ranks in the top 15 in the Summit League women's 800m standings. Rivera also set a personal best in the 400-meter dash, running a time of 1:04.11 at the KT Woodman Classic in Wichita.Â
- Mariah Belmont - Belmont's first year has seen the freshman place fourth on the all-time Kansas City women's outdoor 3000-meter steeplechase list. Belmont ran a 11:12.87 at the John McDonnell Invitational which comes in as the ninth best time in the conference a week before the Summit League Outdoor Championships.Â
