Roos Come Away With Plethora of Gold Medals at Summit Outdoor Championships

Kansas City Men's Track & Field tabbed fourth place in the team standings
FARGO, N.D. -- Kansas City Track & Field walked away from the 2026 Summit League Outdoor Championship smiling and satisfied as the Roos put another season of conference competition in the books. As a team, the KC men finished fourth, earning 83 points and grabbing the Roos highest placement at a Summit meet since 2013. Furthermore, the Kansas City women came in sixth, totaling 28 points which equaled their indoor placement as a unit.Â

The Roos will march on to regionals where a select few athletes will have a chance to garner All-American status and reach the national meet. The NCAA Outdoor West Preliminary will take place in Fayettville, Ark. on May 27-30.Â

- Tory Lanham remained the undisputed Summit champion of the 200 meter dash, taking his third straight outdoor title in the event and his fifth career gold in the event overall. Lanham ran a time of 20.39 in the final but ran a 20.34 in the preliminary round, the 10th fastest time in the NCAA West Division and the 21st fastest time in the nation. Lanham also won a gold in the Roos' 4x100 meter relay race, backing up the squad's championship-winning time of 4040.21 seconds. The junior sprinter was also the back leg of KC's silver-winning 4x400-meter relay team that put up a time of 3:12.43.Â
- The 200M success didn't stop with Lanham as fellow Roo Amari Eugene was right on his heels, sprinting a speed second place time of 20.88 seconds, giving the sophomore a new career-best time in the event. Eugene is now a two-time silver medalist in the 200M in addition to being a Summit champ in the Roos first place 4x100 race.Â
- Short sprints were kind to Kansas City once again as Stephen Clunis won the 100 meter dash, making him the first Roo on the men's side to ever win the event in the school's time in the Summit League. Clunis came out of the blocks hot, darting a time of 10.18 second, the 28th fastest time in the NCAA West Division. SDSU transfer Jared Wipf joined Clunis on the podium, finishing with a time of 10.45 seconds to take the bronze medal after placing just seventh in the prelims.Â
- Brendan Badie had the top time in the Summit League for the 400 meter hurdles all outdoor season long and showed why in Fargo, marking up a time of 51.84 seconds, a new personal best and good enough to make him the conference champion in the event. For Badie, it's his first career Summit medal after concluding his first outdoor campaign.Â
- M.J. Foster put together a marvelous run in the 1500 meter dash, coming away with the bronze medal after finishing with a time of 3:59.97. For Foster, it's the sophomore's first career Summit medal and it comes in just his fifth time ever running the 1500M at the college level.Â
- Following a third-place finish at the Summit Indoor Championships this past winter, Jacky Perez Vela grabbed herself a gold medal at the outdoor meet, boasting a conference-best time of 54.73 seconds. Perez-Vela becomes the first Roo on the women's side to take the outdoor 400M crown since Marcia Daniel in 2000.Â
- After falling just short of the podium at the league indoor meet, Naomi Eyanagho reached that mark by earning a bronze medal in the shot put. The junior thrower tossed a mark of 14.54 meters. Eyanagho still holds a career-best shot put throw of 15.74 meters, the farthest toss of a Summit League athlete in that event this season.Â
