Tory Lanham returns to the NCAA Outdoor Championships after taking home Second Team All-American honors last year
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. -- For the second straight season, Kansas City's Tory Lanham has qualified for the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships. Lanham along with Naomi Eyanagho, Stephen Clunis, Stephen Brown and Amari Eugene competed at the NCAA West Preliminary this past week, with the junior sprinter making a name for himself at the regional meet once again.
In Wednesday's 200-meter dash first round action, Lanham went up against a competitive field of sprinters but still managed to emerge as one of the top racers, clocking out with a time of 20.58 seconds which was good for the sixth best time out of 48 runners. With a spot in the quarterfinals locked up, Lanham now just had to be one of the top 12 runners out of 24 qualifying athletes to reach the national meet in Euegene, Oregon.Â
Already an NCAA 200m All-American from last season and a three-time outdoor Summit League champion in the event, Lanham added to his remarkable run as a Roo on Friday evening, taking the tape in 20.54 seconds to place eighth amongst the stacked field and punch another ticket to the NCAA Outdoor Championships on June 10-13.Â
Kansas City also saw success in the men's sprint relays and in the women's shot put. The Roos designated 'A squad' for the 4x100m relay kicked things to another gear Friday afternoon as Brown, Clunis, Eugene and Lanham combined for a new program record time of 39.53 seconds, the 14th fastest time at the NCAA West Preliminary and just two spots shy of qualifying for the national meet. Additionally, Eyanagho represented the Roos well in the field as the Summit outdoor shot put bronze medalist recorded a mark of 14.15 meters to finish in 43rd place at regionals.Â
