Tory Lanham ran a time of 47.14 in his first official collegiate 400-meter dash
VERMILLION, S.D. - Kansas City Track & Field brought their best to the table, setting several season-best times across various events at the USD Tune Up. Three Roos set new individual season best times including Tory Lanham in the 400m, Jacky Perez-Vela in the 400m and Mason Rogers in the 100m. Lanham and Perez-Vela's season-bests were also personal records as well.Â
Additionally, KC notched nine top five marks, two of which came in the 4x400-meter relay races. On the men's side, the Roos nabbed second place with a time of 3:15.56, less than one second shy of the hometown Coyotes. The women's team also came in second in their 4x400-meter relay, registering a time of 3:51.75, only trailing South Dakota by under three seconds for first place. Both times were season-bests for the Roos, making it the best collective 4x400-meter relay outing for Kansas City this season.Â
TOP PERFORMERSÂ
- Tory Lanham - In his first 400-meter dash at the collegiate level, Lanham delivered a gem of a performance. The sophomore darted a 47.14 second time to come third in the event and placed second in the Summit League 400m rankings. Lanham also earns yet another program record, breaking Glenn Hunt's previous 400m men's outdoor record 47.42 back in 2000. Lanham now owns the KC school record for the outdoor 400m and the 200m in both the indoor and outdoor seasons.Â
- Mason Rogers - Rogers earned himself a new season-best time of 10.66 seconds in the 100-meter dash in Vermillion. The senior's 10.66 time was good for fourth best in the event and is a top 15 time for the 100m in the conference. Rogers career-best time in the 100m is a time of 10.54 which he set back at the 2024 Summit League Outdoor Championships. Â
- Hunter Ross - Ross continues to show why he will be a wildcard in the triple jump come conference meet time. The senior jumper recorded a mark of 14.33 meters which was good for fourth best in the event. Ross' 14.83 is tied for the fourth best men's triple jump mark of any Summit League competitor this outdoor season, making him a name to know across the conference ahead of the league meet later this month.Â
- Jacky Perez-Vela - Continuing her fantastic freshman campaign, Perez-Vela set a new 400-meter dash personal best time of 55.47 at the USD Tune Up. The time was good for fifth place in the event and also moves Perez-Vela up from fifth to a tie for fourth on the Roos all-time women's outdoor 400m list. Perez-Vela's 55.47 time is tied with Marlainna Glenn who ran the same exact time for KC back in 1998. The freshman remains sixth in the Summit League for the 400m.Â
- Sarah Wulfert - Wulfert ran a brilliant 100-meter dash time of 12.25 in Vermillion, giving her third place in the event. The freshman's best time this season came at the KT Woodman Classic where she ran a 11.90, making her 11th on the Summit League women's 100m list this outdoor season.Â
- Maddie Dial - Dial was yet another Roo who earned a top five individual placement at the USD Tune Up. The former Oklahoma State Cowboy ran a 1:01.89 to come in fourth place for the event. Dial's 1:01.89 time just trails her season-best time of 1:01.40 which she set back at the John McDonnell Invite last weekend.Â
