
Kansas City Preps for USD Tune Up

Roos will send a short crew to Vermillion to compete in two-day meet at the home of a conference foe
Following a busy weekend for Kansas City Track & Field at the John McDonnell Invite in Fayetteville and Rock Chalk Classic in Lawrence, the Roos are back in action. KC heads to Vermillion, S.D. for the USD Tune-Up hosted by Summit League opponent South Dakota this Friday and Saturday.Â
Last weekend, Kansas City saw five athletes set new personal records at the John McDonnell Invite including M.J. Foster and Alanie Rivera's 1:53.13 and 2:12.73 800-meter dash times respectively. Additionally, the Roos discovered newfound success in the distance events at the Rock Chalk Classic, boasting several top five finishes.Â
Roos To WatchÂ
- Tory Lanham -Â The Roos top sprinter is coming off a strong performance at the John McDonnell Invite where the sophomore ran a 20.78 time in the 200-meter dash. It was Lanham's second sub-21 second time in a row, his first being the KC program record 20.59 time at the KT Woodman Classic.Â
- Hunter Ross - Ross continues to perform well in the triple jump for Kansas City, nabbing a personal record jump of 14.83 meters at the Kansas Relays. Ross' followed that up with a 14.28 meter jump at the John McDonnell Invite. Ross' 14.83 mark is tied for the fourth best triple jump mark in the Summit League.Â
- Maddie Dial - Dial has put together a strong graduate year campaign, notching a personal best in the 400-meter hurdles with a time of 1:01.40 at the John McDonnell Invite. That time is currently the sixth best in the Summit League and beats out her previous season best by nearly four seconds.Â
- Jacky Perez-Vela - Perez-Vela was named as a Summit League Athlete to Watch ahead of the outdoor season. So far, the freshman sprinter has lived up to the billing, registering a career-best time of 24.72 in the 200-meter dash at the KT Woodman Classic and a personal record time of 55.55 in the 400-meter dash in Arkansas. Â
