Kansas City set to square off against familiar foes in Lawrence for a jam packed three-day meet
For the second time this outdoor season, Kansas City will travel to Lawrence, Kan. for a meet hosted by the Kansas Jayhawks. This time around, the Roos will be competing in the much anticipated Kansas Relays from Thursday, April 17 through Saturday, April 19.Â
Last time out on the track, the Roos put together their most complete team performance of the outdoor season in the KT Woodman Classic at Wichita State. Kansas City saw multiple athletes achieve top 10 finishes and achieve new career-best marks, including Tory Laham who ran a 20.59 in the 200-meter dash which broke his own previously set program record in the men's outdoor 200m from a season ago.Â
Roos To WatchÂ
- Tory Lanham - Coming off his fourth Summit League 'Peak Performer of the Week' award of the year and first of the outdoor season, Lanham has been the best sprinter in the conference and on a collision course for regionals in late May. The sophomore's 20.59 in the 200-meter dash is the fifth best time among men's sprinters in the West region and tied for the 15th best time for that event in the country.Â
- Amari Eugene - In his first race of the outdoor season, Eugene set a new career-best with a 21.40 time in the 200-meter dash, good for the 19th best finish at the KT Woodman Classic. Previously, Eugene bit the bronze with a third place finishing time of 21.59 in the 200m at the Summit League Indoor Championships.Â
- Joan Rocha-Navarro - Rocha-Navarro came in 15th place with a time of 3:56.89 in the 1500-meter dash at Wichita State last weekend. The senior will aim for a time closer to his personal record of 3:47.81 which he earned at the Arkansas Twilight meet during the 2024 outdoor season. Â
- Jacky Perez-Vela - In both her last two meets, Perez-Vela has set personal records for both the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash. At the Summit League Indoor Championships, the freshman ran a time of 56.45 seconds to come in 9th place in the conference.Â
- Maddie Dial - The Oklahoma State transfer notched a new career best time of 1:05.01 which placed her 15th amongst the competition in the 400-meter hurdles at the KT Woodman Classic. Dial's 1:05.01 is also the 13th best time in the Summit League for the women's 400 hurdles.Â
- Jaleesa McWashington - Last time out, McWashington recorded a tremendous long jump mark of 5.60 meters at the CMU Invite, one of her best results of the year. McWashington's career-best in the event came around this time last year, when the senior lept a mark of 5.98 meters at the Pacific Coast Invitational, the fifth best mark in Roos women's outdoor long jump history.Â
