Ross, Williams Excel in Triple Jump at Kansas Relays

Hunter Ross set a new career-best mark of 14.83 meters, Brooke Williams notched a 12.10 meter mark, second best in the event
LAWRENCE, KAN. - Despite less than ideal weather conditions on Friday morning, Kansas City Track & Field pushed through and garnered the results they were looking for at the Kansas Relays. The Roos outing in Lawrence was highlighted by several impressive triple jumping performances and a few notable outcomes in the relay races.Â
In the triple jump, Hunter Ross crossed a new personal best threshold, breaking his prior peak of 14.57 meters by leaping a mark of 14.83 meters at the KU Relays. Ross' new personal record was good for third best in the event and is now tied for the third best mark in the Summit League for the men's triple jump.Â
Additionally, Brooke Williams showcased a 12.10 meter mark in the women's triple jump, good for a second place finish in the event and less than a tenth of a meter of her career-best of 12.14 meters. Williams also became the fourth women's athlete in the Summit League to register a plus-12 meter mark in the triple jump this outdoor season.Â
KEY RESULTSÂ
- Women's 800-meter dash - On Thursday evening, Alanie Rivera put together a spectacular showing in the 800m, running a time of 2:18.34 which was good for a third place finish amongst 30 total competitors in the event. Rivera's time was less than a second behind her season-best outing of 2:17.83 that she set last week at the KT Woodman Classic.Â
- Women's 4x800-meter relay - The Roos finished fifth place out of 10 participating teams in the women's 4x800m relay with a time of 9:53.55. KC finished ahead of Crowder CC, Park, Baker, Neosho County CC and Northwestern Oklahoma in the event.Â
- Men's 4x800-meter relay - Kansas City completed the 4x800m relay in seventh place out of 15 competing teams, completing the race with a time of 7:63.51. The Roos finished ahead of Western Illinois, Hastings, Emporia State, Neosho County CC, Southern Nazarene, Baker, Southwestern CC and Purdue Northwest.Â
- Distance medley relays - On the women's side, the Roos came in second place out of four teams, sporting a time of 12:40.51 in the race. Kansas City finished ahead of Park and Northwestern Oklahoma and trailed only Kansas in the distance medley relay. Taking part in the Roos second place finish were Rivera, Ellie Gira, Alyiah Shirley and Mariah Belmont. On the men's side, KC delivered a third place time of 10:30.64, finishing ahead of Rockhurst and just behind Park and Kansas. Joan Rocha-Navarro, MJ Foster, Luke Swarts and Connor Jacober made up the Roos third place finish.Â
- Triple jump - In addition to Ross and Williams stellar showings, Nahshon Houston came through with a 13.76 meter mark on the men's side which was good for a top 12 finish in the event. Juliana Lupercio also recorded a 10.89 meter mark in the women's triple jump which was a top 16 mark in the event and less than half a meter shy of her personal record of 11.13 meters. Â
