The Roos went for season-highs in hits and runs scored to take down WIU

MACOMB, Ill. - Kansas City Softball (5-32, 1-11 Summit) used a flurry of hitting and aggressive running to sprint past Western Illinois (10-29, 6-12 OVC) this afternoon, 13-9. The Roos got help up and down the lineup, scoring a season-high 13 runs and 12 hits. Grace Batdorf started the scoring with her third home run of the year in the second inning and KC never looked back, scoring at least one run in innings two through seven. Leilani Bustamante was a scorching 2-of-4 from the plate with a double and a triple, recording three RBI and two runs scored. Batdorf went 3-of-5 from the plate with two RBI, Elleana Navarro was 2-of-4 with three RBI and Taylor Kvale was 2-of-3 with two RBI. Riley Bebb went five innings from the circle with four runs allowed, nabbing her second win of the year.

KEY MOMENTS

Top 2 / 4-1 | After falling behind by a run in the first inning, Bustamante led off the second with a double and Batdorf swung for the fences to score a pair. The Roos logged three-straight hits from Derika Castillo, Navarro and Kvale, and Chloe Kohnhorst hit a sacrifice fly to score the final run of the inning.
Bottom 2 / 4-1 | Bebb went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the second to secure the Roos' lead heading into the third inning.
Top 4 / 7-1 | Walks by Briona Woods and Katie Noble led off the second inning and Sabrina Rogers drew a third walk to load the bases with two outs. Navarro came up big in a clutch situation, knocking a single to left field and scoring a pair.
Top 7 / 13-5 | Kansas City added insurance runs in the seventh inning, loading the bases with no outs. Bustamante stepped up to the plate and sent a shot past the right fielder, clearing the bases with a triple. Rogers used a sacrifice fly to score the final run and Maddie Parker came in for the save in the bottom of the seventh.
