
Roos Run Hard at Iowa State Classic to Cap Off Two-Meet Weekend

Kansas City saw strong performances from their long and mid-distance runners in Ames
AMES, IA. – Kansas City Track & Field saw plenty of growth even with a small group of competitors at the Iowa State Classic on Saturday afternoon. KC's middle and long distance teams were the particular focus of the meet for the Roos. Kansas City saw several career-best marks in the jumps and distance running, making their trip to Ames a successful one.
KEY RESULTS
- 5000-meter dash - Sam Cleary registered a 9th best time of 15:06.15 in the men's 5000-meter dash, coming near his season-best time of 15:00.40 which was set at the ISU Holiday Invitational. Meanwhile, Mariah Belmont recorded a time of 18:03.92 in the women's 5000m to place sixth best in the event.
- Women's 3000-meter dash - Madelyn Russell led the Roos in the women's 3000-meter dash, recording a time of 11:01.01 to place 34th in the event. Jordan Strausbaugh placed right after Russell in the 35th place, posting a time of 11:10.97 in her first event of the indoor season.
- 800-meter dash - Kansas City had one runner in the 800-meter dash in both the women's 800m and the men's 800m. Kai White ran a 1:54.67 time, good for a top 25 finish and under two seconds shy of his personal best time set earlier this season. Ceyda Bayur delivered another solid outing in the 800m, running a 2:18.6 to place within the top 25 finishers and come within a second of her season-best mark which was set at the Washburn Open.
- 60-meter hurdles - Jaleesa McWashington ran the 60-meter hurdles, qualifying for the final round with a 8.68 second time in the first round. In the final round, McWashington sprinted a 8.66 second time, good for fourth place in the event.
- Women's triple jump - Brooke Williams once again showed up big time for the Roos in the triple jump. Williams posted a 11.85 meter triple jump mark, good for fourth best in the event and setting a new career-best mark in the process. McWashington claimed another top five placement in the triple jump, boasting a triple jump mark of 11.25 meters.
- Women's mile - A day after running her first collegiate race in the 800-meter dash, Harper Barlow ran the mile in Ames. Barlow ran a 5:19.86 in her first mile race at the collegiate ranks. In Columbia, Barlow ran a 2:21.92 in the 800-meter dash.
Next up for the Roos is another two-meet stretch next weekend where Kansas City will bring a group to Fayetteville, Ark. for the Tyson Invitational and another group to Topeka, Kan. for the Ichabod Invitational.
