
Kansas City Soars to New Heights at Tyson & Ichabod Invitationals

Stephen Clunis set a KC program record time of 6.65 seconds in the 60-meter dash
Kansas City Track and Field saw well rounded outings at the Tyson and Ichabod Invitationals this past weekend as five Roos recorded new career-best marks. The Roos sent a sprints-heavy crew to Fayetteville where Stephen Clunis dashed a new program record time of 6.65 seconds, besting his previous career-best mark of 6.66 which he set back at the Bob Timmons Challenge and ISU Holiday Invitational. Meanwhile, at Washburn the Roos had a jump-heavy squad which boasted several top 10 placements.Â

Men's 60-meter dash - In addition to Clunis' 6.65 school record time in the 60-meter dash, which ranks tied for the 39th best time in the country, several other Roos showed out in big ways in the 60m. Most notably, Junior Powell who finished fourth in the 60-meter finals, recording a time of 6.83 seconds. Tory Lanham was the third Roo to register a sub-7.00 second time in the 60m, as the sophomore finished with a time of 6.94 seconds. Â

Men's 200-meter dash - Lanham led the way in the 200-meter dash, showcasing a time of 21.26 which was good for a top 20 placement in the event. Following him came Powell and Logan Pratt, who totaled times of 21.73 and 21.86 respectively. The Roos finished with three top 40 placements in the men's 200-meter dash. Â

Men's long jump - Nahshon Houston lept his career-best in the men's long jump at the Tyson Invitational, recording a mark of 7.40 meters. Houston's long jump mark ranks first in the Summit League and is a top 100 mark in the country. Houston is also bumped up to third all-time in Kansas City program history for the men's long jump in the indoor season.Â

Women's mile - Ceyda Bayur came just shy of her career-best in the mile, registering a time of 5:09.35 to finish sixth in the event at the Ichabod Invitational. Harper Barlow joined her as the two Roos to compete in the women's mile at Washburn. Barlow set a new career-best mark of 5:16.16 which bested her previous best in the mile which she had set at the Iowa State Classic.Â

Women's triple jump - Brooke Williams set a new career-best in the triple jump, recording a mark of 11.95 meters to come in third place in the event and surpass her previous best of 11.85 meters which she set back at the Iowa State Classic. Jaleesa McWashington also performed well as the fifth year senior zoned in on a mark of 11.67 meters in the women's triple jump to come in fifth place in the event.Â

Men's/Women's long jump - McWashington also balled out in the long jump too, boasting a mark of 5.57 meters to finish in sixth place. On the men's side, Miguel Hernandez recorded a career-best long jump mark of 6.88 meters, besting his prior career-best of 6.84 meters which he had set back at the Missouri Invitational.Â
The Roos will rest up for the biggest meet of the season, the Summit League Indoor Championships, which take place in Sioux Falls, South Dakota on February 28 and March 1. Â
