Kasheem Grady II tallied 19 points on 7-of-11 shooting in the loss
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Men's Basketball (1-7) showed flashes of what the team can be tonight, leading Idaho State (5-4) for 24 minutes in the opener of the 2025 Big Sky-Summit League Challenge. When the final buzzer sounded, however, it was the Bengals with the lead, claiming a 68-59 win. Kasheem Grady II made his first start since Nov. 30, 2024 and made use of the opportunity, finishing with a game-high 19 points and adding three steals.
The Roos owned the pace of the first half, leading most of the way. KC was able to hold Idaho State to 0-of-13 shooting from three-point range and carry a four-point lead into the break, 29-25. An attacking flair put Kansas City on the line for eight more shots than the Bengals in the first frame, shooting 10-of-12 from the charity stripe on the half.
At the beginning of the second half, Grady took over. He nailed his first three of the night at the 18:31 mark, pushing the Roos' lead to a game-high six. He proceeded to score 10-straight points by himself across the next three minutes, single-handedly maintaining the lead. His 19 points were within two of his career-best mark, and account for his third double-digit scoring game of the season. He finished 7-of-11 from the field, tying his career-best for field goal makes.
Kansas City held onto the lead until midway through the second half, but Idaho State finished the game on a 21-9 run across the final 10 minutes to claim the victory.
Jerome Palm added 13 points for Kansas City, his second-straight game reaching that mark. CJ Evans was the only other Roo in double-digits, going for 11 points and adding a team-high four assists.
The Roos continue the Big Sky-Summit League Challenge on Saturday, traveling to Eastern Washington for a meeting with the Eagles.
