KC, UVU tip off at on Saturday 1 p.m. inside the Swinney Center and on the Summit League Network
Kansas City Notes
- In a meeting of old Western Athletic Conference foes, Kansas City hosts Utah Valley for the second time since the Roos joined the Summit League in 2020. Kansas City and Utah Valley matched up last year with the 72-48 result tilting in favor of the Wolverines.Â
- Kansas City and Utah Valley used to face off regularly as WAC opponents, playing each other 16 times from 2013-2020. The Roos went 7-9 against the Wolverines in that span but held a 5-2 record at home. KC's most relevant success over UVU came in 2019, where the Roos beat the Wolverines in all three matchups that season, including a 78-75 victory in the WAC Quarterfinals.
- Last time out, Emani Bennett and Tierra Trotter put together strong offensive performances for the Roos. Bennett ended up with 27 points, her third 20-plus scoring output of the year. Trotter finished with 18 points, her highest scoring figure as a Roo.Â
- Kansas City remains one of the most efficient three point shooting teams in the country, knocking down the three ball at a 42.1% clip, the best mark in the Summit and second best nationally. Jamyah Winter (49.2%) and Emani Bennett (50%) are the top two outside shooters in the conference.Â
- The Roos are back to their bread and butter this season, playing physical and tenacious defense which results in forcing a lot of steals and turnovers. KC forces opponents into 21 turnovers a contest and averages 10.9 steals a night, both Summit best marks to go along with a strong 5.4 turnover margin.Â
Utah Valley Notes
- Despite a move to the Big West in the near future, Utah Valley remains in the WAC for the time being. The Wolverines are 5-3 but have dropped their last two games to Nevada 71-42 and Air Force 58-50.Â
- UVU is 2-2 on the road this season, taking wins over Cal State Bakersfield 66-42 and LMU 64-60 while losing to most recently, Nevada as well as Utah in early November.Â
- The Wolverines strengths overlap with the Roos, as UVU notches 27.5 turnovers a game on their opponents, the fourth best mark in the country. Additionally, UVU's 16.5 steals per game is third in the NCAA to go along with the lowest points allowed (56.4) in the WAC.Â
- Utah Valley has four players averaging over 2.0 steal per game, including Cambree Blackham who has 3.2 SPG which is first in the conference and top 25 nationally. Blackham is also the Wolverines leader in assists, averaging 3.5 dimes a night which is fourth in the WAC.Â
