The Roos have options for all ages with camps from July 28 through Aug. 2
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Women's Basketball and Head Coach Candi Whitaker will host four camping opportunities at the Swinney Center this summer, giving young athletes the chance to learn, compete and grow alongside Roo coaches and players.
Lil' Roos Basketball Camp, Fundamentals Day Camp and Middle School Skills Camp will take place July 28-31. Each camp is designed to meet players at their stage of development, from those picking up a basketball for the first time to athletes looking to build on their skills in a competitive setting.
Lil' Roos Basketball Camp will introduce young beginners to the game through age-appropriate instruction, interactive activities and basketball-themed games. Campers will work on dribbling, passing, shooting, footwork, teamwork and sportsmanship in a positive, low-pressure environment.
Fundamentals Day Camp is open to players in third through fifth grade, while Middle School Skills Camp is available for athletes in sixth through eighth grade. Both camps will feature skill stations, competitive games, 3-on-3 play, Hot Shot competitions and team challenges. Campers will be grouped by age and skill level, allowing each player to learn and improve at a comfortable pace.
All three July camps run from 9 a.m. to noon each day and include an official camp T-shirt, player evaluation, daily instruction, competitions and an end-of-camp awards ceremony. Family and friends are invited to attend the closing ceremony at 11:30 a.m. on July 31.
High school athletes can take the next step at the Women's Basketball Elite Camp on Aug. 2. Led by Coach Whitaker and the Kansas City coaching staff, the camp will include position-specific instruction, competitive drills, small-sided games and live 5-on-5 action in a Division I practice environment.
Elite Camp runs from 2-5 p.m. and costs $40. Campers will also have the opportunity to take part in a Q&A session and brief campus tour.
