Roos Ride Bennett, Amode Double-Doubles to Rout of William Jewell

Elauni Bennett, Funmi Amode standout performances mark Kansas City’s first game of two players registering a double-double since December 18, 2023
KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City Women's Basketball (1-1) punched its first ticket into the win column this season, coming away with a wire-to-wire 90-35 victory over William Jewell Saturday afternoon at the Swinney Center. The Roos came out of the gate looking to make a statement, going on a 7-0 scoring run in the first three minutes. A strong defensive start and dominance on the glass guided the Roos to a well rounded first quarter.

Kansas City held William Jewell to 23% shooting and forced the Cardinals into eight turnovers through the first 10 minutes. Kansas City kept the pedal to the metal, scrapping together loads of second chance opportunities thanks to the efforts of Elauni Bennett, who notched a first half double-double of 14 points and 11 rebounds, 10 of those boards coming on the offensive glass. The Roos force along the interior overwhelmed the Cardinals as KC took a convincing 42-18 advantage into halftime.
Kansas City turned the dial up offensively coming out of halftime as the Roos shot a blistering 60% from the floor and 60% from behind the three point arc. KC outscored William Jewell 27-5 in the third quarter alone, putting the game to rest early on in the second half. The third quarter was closed out in epic fashion via an Alyssa Febres step-back three ball to beat the game clock buzzer.
Emani Bennett continued to score the ball at a high rate, pouring in a team-high 23 points, her second game of 20-plus points this season. Joining El. Bennett in the double-double club was Funmi Amode, who scored a dozen in the points department on 6-7 shooting from the floor and hauled in 12 rebounds, both career-highs as a Roo for the senior forward. El. Bennett finished the game with 18 points and 14 rebounds, her first double-double of the season.
When the final buzzer sounded, Kansas City forced the Cardinals into committing 34 turnovers, grabbing 14 steals as a unit and outrebounding William Jewell 57-33 overall and 26-12 on the offensive glass. The Roos totaled 16 assists as a team, 10 more than the Cardinals and finished with six blocks and scored 38 points off of William Jewell litany of turnovers.
Kansas City embarks on perhaps their stiffest test of the season as the Roos travel to Norman, Okla. to take on the sixth ranked Sooners at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening.
