Notes: Kansas City Braces for Prime-Time Bout With No. 6 Oklahoma

The Roos and Sooners tip in Norman at 8 p.m. Wednesday night on SEC Network
Kansas City Notes
- Kansas City Women's Basketball gears up for a massive road tilt against No. 6 Oklahoma at 8 p.m. on Wednesday evening. The Roos are coming off a 90-35 rout of William Jewell in which Elauni Bennett and Funmi Amode both recorded double-double performances.
- Saturday afternoon, Elauni Bennett posted 18 points and 14 rebounds, 10 of those boards came on the offensive side of the glass. Funmi Amode produced a 12 point, 12 rebound double-double, the first of her career. It's the first time multiple Roos have notched a double-double in the same game since December 18, 2023.
- The Roos continue to start seasons off strong at the Swinney Center, winning their last seven home openers, the latter four of which have been under Head Coach Jackson-Durrett. The Roos beat William Jewell in the 2024-25 home opener 74-32.
- The Roos trip to the Sooner State will be a homecoming for Kansas City Head Coach Dionnah Jackson-Durrett. The former OU standout amassed over 1,200 points, 600 rebounds and 500 assists in her four-year career and was an three-time All-Big 12 athlete under the tutelage of Sherri Coale in Norman.
- Wednesday night's matchup features as just the second time these two teams have faced off all-time and the first since the Roos joined the DI level in 1987. OU won the first and only matchup 88-62 on December 11, 1984.
- Oklahoma is 1-1 to start the 2025-26 season, opening the year with a 84-67 win over Belmont before dropping a top 10 matchup Monday night to No. 3 UCLA, 73-59.
- Oklahoma came into the 2025-26 season with lofty expectations holding the No. 6 spot in the Preseason Top 25 AP Poll while also being projected to finish fifth in the SEC. The Sooners retained their sixth spot in the latest national rankings.
- In 2024-25, the Sooners went on a run to the Sweet 16, losing to the eventual National Champion #3 UConn Huskies 82-59. OU went 27-8 overall and 11-5 in SEC play, finishing No. 11 in the final AP Poll.
- The Sooners are led by returning All-SEC First Team selection Raegan Beers. The 6'4 center averaged 17.3 ppg and 9.4 rpg while shooting 63% from the field last season.
