For the first time ever, the Roos and Larks square off with tip coming on Thursday at noon
Kansas City Notes
- Coming off an extended road trip, Kansas City Women's Basketball returns home for a three game stretch. First up on the home dockett is a matchup against Hesston on Thursday at noon.Â
- Although Kansas City didn't come away with a win on their road trip, the Roos showed lots of promising signs. Most notably, Kansas City shot lights out against Lindenwood, converting 57% on all shots and 58% on three pointers, the fifth time the Roos have shot over 50% from the field and from three in the Jackson-Durrett era.Â
- Elauni Bennett continues to one-up herself, going for a career-high 26 points and eight rebounds on 12-16 (75%) shooting from the floor. Bennett is having a breakout junior campaign so far, averaging 17.0 PPG and 8.2 RPG while shooting 68% overall.Â
- This will be only the fourth time in the Jackson-Durrett era that the Roos have taken on an NAIA program in a non-exhibition game. Kansas City is 3-0 in such matchups in the last four year with the last win coming over Bellevue 84-44 on Dec. 6, 2023.Â
- Shooting the rock from long range has been a strength of Kansas City's offensive attack so far this season. The Roos are hitting 38.6% on three point shots, the best mark in the Summit and 36th in the country. Jamyah Winter is coming off a scorching hot 21 point performance against Lindenwood in which she made six three pointers and shot 60% from downtown.Â
- Hesston comes into Thursday's matinee matchup with the Roos at 3-7 overall. The Larks started the season off 0-5 but have won three of their last five, most recently beating Manhattan Christian 77-59.Â
- This is Hesston's first year in the NAIA as the Larks were members of the NJCAA before making the transition this summer.Â
- The Larks went 6-24 in the 2024-25 season but grabbed 43.8 rebounds per game, setting a new school record for a program that has been around since the 1970's. Â
- Brooke Bettis leads the Larks in scoring, averaging 10.3 points per game on 40% shooting from the floor and 42% from three point territory. Akiva Brown leads Hesston in rebounding, averaging 6.0 rebounds per game.Â
