Wade Muttitt, Raphael Kistmann and Timothy Ospina all found the back of the net for Senior Night goals
KANSAS CITY - Kansas City Men's Soccer (6-2-4, 3-1) celebrated Senior Night this evening prior to its match up with St. Thomas (6-4-3, 1-2), and it did indeed prove to be the seniors' night. Five of the honored Roos earned a start for Kansas City tonight - Joackim Betina, Elie Kisoka, Mateus Moura, Raphael Kistmann and Timothy Ospina. On top of that, all three of Kansas City's goals on the evening were scored by the old guys, one each from Kistmann, Ospina and Wade Muttitt. The cherry on top was a 3-1 Roos' win that puts KC atop the Summit League standings as the only team with nine points.
Windy conditions made for a slow start to the game as each side tried to feel the other out. Only five shots were taken in the first 45 minutes, three by the Roos and two by the Tommies. Kansas City began to find a rhythm towards the end of the frame and it came to fruition in the 43rd minute as Wade Muttitt pulled down a beautifully played ball from Wesley Cribb, pushing it past UST's Moritz Krenc and into the back of the net for the opening goal.
Kansas City's second goal played out in a similar manner. Another defender, this time Guille Munoz, played a long ball into the box. Kistmann split between a pair of Tommie defenders and jumped on the pass, sending a one-time shot zipping into the netting.
The Tommies drew one closer on an 88th minute goal from Alejjandro Giner, but Ospina was ready to ensure the victory. With just 19 seconds remaining in the game, Miguel Fernandez found him on the right side of the field. Ospina took one touch and loaded up his shot, sending one flying from 25 yards out. The ball bounced off Krenc's mitts and past him, rolling across the goal line and securing three points for the Roos.
Kansas City attempted just five shots on the night, and placed just three on-goal. Those three were all that were needed, each scoring goals for the Roos. It goes down as the first time that all of KC's on-goal shots have scored goals in a winning effort since Oct. 27, 2019, when the Roos claimed a 2-0 win at Grand Canyon.
Muttitt's goal was his third of the season, his first since KC's Aug. 29 draw with Saint Mary's. Kistmann and Ospina each scored their first goals of the year, the ninth of Kistmann's career and the fifth of Ospina's. For all three of the assist men - Cribb, Munoz and Fernandez - it was their first point of the 2025 season.
Kansas City will take a quick breath from the grind of league play, traveling to Tulsa and Michigan State for a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday and Sunday.
