First Five
First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball looks to break out of its six-game losing skid as it begins the second half of Summit League play against Oral Roberts on Saturday. The six-game losing streak ties the longest that KC has undertaken while under the direction of Head Coach Marvin Menzies (Feb. 11-Mar. 3, 2023).
- The Roos past five losses have come by an average of 3.2 points per game and each of the last three were by three points or less. It marks the first time in program history that a Kansas City team has fallen in three-straight one-possession games.
- Jamar Brown scored a team-high 15 points against Denver after being held under 10 points in back-to-back games for the first time in his career. Brown was 6-of-9 from the field and 3-of-5 from three-point range and currently ranks top-10 in the Summit League in field goal percentage and three-point makes per contest.
- Despite an average rebounding margin of plus-4.8 on the season, the second-best in the Summit League, the Roos have been out-rebounded in four-straight games. When winning the battle of the boards, KC is 7-4 this year. When being out-rebounded by opponents, that mark falls to 3-9.
- The Roos' scoring defense remains one of the best in the nation. KC holds teams to just 66.3 points per game, the lowest mark and the Summit and 44th-lowest in the NCAA. KC's field goal defense is 43.1%, the second-best mark in the league.
Scouting Oral Roberts
- Oral Roberts enters Saturday's game on a five-game losing streak, having most recently dropped a 86-71 decision at St. Thomas on Wednesday.
- The Golden Eagles are led by Issac McBride, the second-leading scorer in the Summit League with a 18.6 points per game average.Â
- ORU are a three-point heavy team, averaging 9.5 makes per game on 36.8% shooting, both marks which rank second in the Summit.
- Despite a 29-14 all-time advantage for the Golden Eagles, the Roos have taken the last three meetings. This is KC's longest winning streak against ORU since a spurt across the 2003-05 seasons.
- The Roos won the first meeting between these two teams on Jan. 4, led by a 16-point, 11-rebound double-double from Jamar Brown.
