Roos’ distance crew and jumping team brace for a third straight weekend of events in Columbia
Coming off back-to-back late week meets at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse, home of the Roos in-state foe Missouri Tigers, Kansas City will travel to Columbia for a third straight week to take part in the Bob Teel Invitational. The Roos will be sending out a smaller crew to CoMO this Saturday, focusing on mainly the distance running and jumping parts of the roster with the hopes of steady improvement as the season wears on.Â
Last time out, several Roos impressed including Tory Lanham, who ran a 21.09 second 200 meter dash time and won his second straight Kwik Star Summit League Male Indoor Track Athlete of the Week honor. The Roos had three first place finishes for the individual events as well as a fourth first place that came from a team event to go along with a handful of other top placements at the Show-Me-Showdown. ROOS TO WATCH
- Sam Cleary - One of the Roos top cross country runners, Cleary has found tremendous success in the indoor T&F season, posting several collegiate bests in the 3000 meter race and the 5000 meter race. Cleary ran a 15:00.40 time in the 5000m at the ISU Holiday Invitational, besting his previous career best by nearly a full minute. Additionally, Cleary set a career best 8:52.62 time for the 3000m at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational, shaving over 20 seconds off his previous indoor season 3000m best.Â
- Nahshon Houston - Houston has been dynamite for Kansas City in the field this season, consistently producing top jump marks in the men's long jump meet in and meet out. In his latest showing, Houston registered a 7.21 meter jump, good for a season best and the second best mark in the Summit League this season. Houston also improved his triple jump mark in this past week's meet, filing a 14.15 meter mark, nearly a whole meter above his previous season best of 13.29 meters.Â
- Miguel Hernandez - Following Houston, Hernandez has been the Roos second most consistent jumper this season. Hernandez has competed in the men's long in all of the meets for Kansas City this season and improved his mark with each and every meet. Hernandez started the season with a long jump mark of 6.41 meters, but now boasts an excellent mark of 6.77 meters in the Roos latest contest at the Show-Me-Showdown. Additionally, Hernandez has recorded top five long jump marks in three straight meets.Â

Later in the season, Williams nearly equaled that mark, mustering up a triple jump mark of 11.37 meters at the Show-Me-Showdown. Additionally, Williams has competed in the Roos 4x400 relay teams twice and done the long jump three times, posting a career best 5.23 meter mark in the season opening meet in Lawrence, Kan.Â
