First Five
- Kansas City Men's Basketball is back in action on Saturday evening, hosting St. Thomas at 7 p.m. in the Swinney Center in search of a win to snap the Roos' four game losing streak. The current skid marks the longest of the season thus far and is the third-longest since Head Coach Marvin Menzies took over in 2022-23.
- The Roos shot the ball at a higher percentage from the field in their recent loss to South Dakota State, marking the first time in nine games this season that the Roos have lost a game that they out-shot their opponents. SDSU made six more free throws than the Roos, moving KC to 4-5 on the year when making less charity shots.
- Anderson Kopp led Kansas City's scoring efforts off the bench, going for 19 points on 7-of-9 shooting. The Roos average 22.76 bench points per contest, ranking third in the Summit League and 141st in the NCAA.
- Jayson Petty scored 11 points against the Jackrabbits, all of which came in the first half of play. Petty has now reached the double-figure mark in seven-straight games, including every conference game so far.
- Three-point shooting has been the story of KC's current losing streak, as the Roos are averaging 29.5% shooting from deep in those for games. Compare that to the Roos' prior six-game winning streak in which KC shot 43.4% from deep.
Scouting St. Thomas
- St. Thomas enters Saturday with a 15-6 record, including a 5-1 mark in Summit League play. The Tommies dropped their first conference game at Omaha on Thursday.
- A balanced scoring team, the Tommies have four players averaging double figures on the season. Miles Barnstable leads the pack, contributing 14.9 points per game.
- St. Thomas boasts one of the best three-point shooting teams in the Summit, averaging 10.9 threes per game on 39.8% shooting from deep. Both of those marks rank second in the Summit.
- The series between these two teams is tied, 3-3 all-time, but the Tommies have won each of the last three meetings.
- UST swept the season series last year, beating the Roos by an average of 18.0 points per game.
