
Three First Place Finishes Highlight Roos Well Rounded Outing in Columbia

Kansas City saw nine top three placements Friday at the Show-Me-Showdown
COLUMBIA, MO - Kansas City Track & Field showcased stellar performances in all areas at the Hearnes Center Fieldhouse for the Show-Me-Showdown Friday afternoon. Most notably, the Roos saw continued excellence out of their star studded group of sprinters and an improved effort out of KC's mid and long distance groups.  Â
Tory Lanham once again performed admirably in the men's 200 meter dash, clocking in with a time of 21.09 to give him first place in the event. The sophomore came close to besting his prior season-best of 21.01 in the 200m last weekend, which set a Kansas City school record. Nahshon Houston delivered an excellent performance in the men's long jump, netting a jump of 7.21m, good for first place overall and marking his season high. On the women's side, Jentrie Alderson put up a time of 10:15.59 in the women's 3000 meter dash nabbing the Roos third individual first place finish of the afternoon. Â
TRACK EVENT HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- 60 meter dash - Kansas City continued its dominance in the short sprints department as the Roos had five of the top six finishers. Stephen Clunis took the tape second overall and first among all Roos, totaling a time of 6.75 in his return back to the track. Junior Powell, Victor Sewankambo and Stephen Brown all ran sub-7.00 second times as they registered 6.82, 6.93, and 6.94 respectively. Lanham found himself in the middle of the pack clocking in at 6.89, good for fourth in the race.Â
- 200 meter dash - After Lanham's 21.09 outing, Brown had the second best placement of the field, coming in at 21.57 on Friday. Both Lanham and Brown occupy the Roos two top spots all-time in the men's 200 meter dash for the indoor season thanks to their performances last time out in Columbia. Jayden Lightford and Shavelle Shaw placed in the top 10 among a crowded field in the women's 200 meter dash, recording 25.50 and 25.58 respectively. Â
- 800 meter dash - The Roos saw outstanding performances in the 800m thanks to Kai White and M.J. Foster on the men's side and Morgan Binsfield and Ceyda Bayur on the women's side. White nabbed second place overall in the 800m with a time of 1:52.98. White's time ranks fifth on the Kansas City all-time leaderboard in the 800m for the indoor season. Foster finished right behind White with a time of 1:55.26 to come in third place in the event. Binsfield placed fourth in the women's 800m with a time of 2:17.90 while Bayur scored a time of 2:18.23 to come in fifth place in the event.Â
- 3000 meter dash - The Roos got remarkable outings from their long distance runners at the Show-Me-Showdown. Alderson completed the 3000m in 10:15.59, topping a field of 23 runners. Mariah Belmont was right behind her finishing with a time of 10:23.20, good for fourth place in the 300m.Â
- 4x400 meter relay - Kansas City registered their second first place men's 4x400 relay finish as the Roos ran a combined time of 3:17.47 to best four other competing teams. On the relay winning team was Jayden Henry, Logan Pratt, Brendan Badie, and Arvesta Schine.Â
FIELD EVENT HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- Men's long jump - Houston led the way for the Roos in the men's long jump once again, recording a jump of 7.21 meters which will best his already Summit League leading mark of 7.19 meters. Elsewhere, Miguel Hernandez registered a 6.77 meter mark to come in fifth place overall. Hunter Ross totaled a mark of 6.44 meters to come in seventh place in the event.Â
- Women's long jump - Jaleesa McWashington lept to the tune of a 5.60 meter mark which netted her a second place finish in the women's long jump. Brooke Williams and Naomi Eyanagho came in with marks of 5.03 meters and 4.59 meters respectively which put them inside the top 20 overall.Â
- Men's triple jump - Houston also lept in the triple jump this time as well, recording a stellar mark of 14.15 meters to come in second in the event. Ross recorded a triple jump mark of 13.78 meters to come in fifth place and Dontez Carr netted a mark of 13.54 meters to finish sixth.Â
- Women's triple jump - Williams came in fourth in the women's triple jump, seeing a jump of 11.37 meters, her best mark of the season. Additionally, McWashington registered a triple jump mark of 10.80, good for sixth best in the contest.Â
Up next for Kansas City is a third straight trip to Colombia next Saturday where the Roos will take part in the Bob Teel Invitational.
