
Lanham Breaks Own School Record at Alexis Jarrett Invitational

Stellar men’s 200 meter dash showing propels Roos to strong team performance
COLUMBIA, MO - Following the longest break in the indoor track and field season, Kansas City was back in action on Saturday as the Roos showcased a well rounded effort in the Alexis Jarrett Invitational. The highlight of the meet came in the men's 200 meter dash where sophomore Tory Lanham clocked in at 21.01, setting a new school record and giving him a top five 200 meter time nationally. Overall, Kansas City saw Roos earn 13 podium worthy placements and six first place finishes.Â
TRACK EVENT HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- 60 meter hurdles - Jayden Henry followed up a program record performance in the 400 meter dash last time out with another fantastic outing, this time making his presence known in the 60 meter hurdles. The freshman recorded a time of 8.23, good for second place in Henry's first collegiate hurdles event. On the women's side, Jaleesa McWashington continued her steady pace, running a first place time of 8.84 in Columbia. Â
- 60 meter dash - The Roos may have been a little rusty in the 60 meter dash, but KC still fared well against its competition. Junior Powell led the Roos in the men's 60m with a time of 6.82, finishing second place overall. KC had five of the top 10 placements in the event, with Stephen Brown and Lanham finishing in the top five. Jayden Lightford and Sarah Wulfert recorded top 10 efforts in the women's 60 meter dash, running times of 7.94 and 8.02 respectively. Â
- 200 meter dash - The Roos roared in the men's 200 meter dash, showcasing seven of the top 10 finishers, including all of the top three runners in the event. Lanham's historic 21.01 time topped what is likely one of the shortest standing program records in Kansas City history. Brown ran a 21.50 second time in the heat prior, breaking Lanham's previous school record time of 21.60. Additionally, Henry ran a 21.60 time in the 200m, tying Lanham for the third best mark in program history. Lightford and Shavelle Shaw starred in the women's 200 meter dash, registering times of 25.40 and 25.68 respectively to both place inside the top five for the event.Â
- 4x400 meter relay - Kansas City finished in first place in both the men's and women's 4x400 meter relay race. On the men's side, KC had Logan Pratt. Brendan Badie, Kai White and Camren Davis totaled a 3:18.77 time, beating out of the other five competing teams. Brooke Williams, Ceyda Bayur, Jacky Perez-Vela, Maddie Dial represented the Roos well on the women's side, recording a time of 4:00.39 to finish first in the event. Â
FIELD EVENT HIGHLIGHTSÂ
- Men's long jump - Nahshon Houston led the way again for Kansas City, jumping a 7.02 meter mark in his fifth jump of the afternoon. Houston came in second among 15 competitors. Elsewhere in the top five, Miguel Hernandez totaled a long jump mark of 6.69 meters to come in fourth and Hunter Ross notched a mark of 6.59 meters to finish fifth.Â
- Women's long jump - McWashington notched another top three jump jump mark, coming in at 5.66 meters in her fifth jump at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational. Additionally, Naomi Eyanagho lept a 4.70 meter mark to finish 13th in the event.Â
- Men's triple jump - Dontez Carr registered a triple jump mark of 13.53 meters to come in fourth place overall. Ross continued his stellar day of jumping, recording a 13.38 meter mark to come in fifth in the men's triple jump.Â
- Women's triple jump - Brooke Williams notched a triple jump mark of 10.69 meters, coming in fifth in the event overall. Furthermore, Juliana Lupercio recorded a triple jump mark of 10.10 meters, finishing in seventh place in the women's triple jump.Â
Kansas City will head back to Columbia to take part in the Show-Me-Showdown at the Hearnes Center next Friday.
