Roos will travel to Columbia for the third meet of the season and first of 2025
Kansas City carries on with their 2024-25 indoor track & field campaign as the Roos get ready to compete in the Alexis Jarrett Invitational this Saturday. Last time out, Kansas City saw two school records broken and 18 top five placements at the ISU Holiday Invitational.Â
Freshman Jayden Henry set a new KC program best with a 47.71 second time in the 400 meter dash. Likewise, sophomore Tory Lanham vaulted up to the top slot all-time in the KC men's indoor 200 meter dash record book with a 21.60 second time. The Roos talented group of sprinters continue to impress as KC ended up with four of the top 10 finishers back in Ames last December.Â
ROOS TO WATCH
- Stephen Clunis - The Summit League's first men's 'Peak Performer of the Year' for the indoor season equalled his conference leading 6.66 second time in the 60 meter dash at the ISU Holiday Invitational. The junior sprinter's 6.66 time ranks fifth nationally. Clunis has also cracked a sub-6.70 mark three times this season while no other Summit League men's 60 meter dash runner has done it once.Â
- Victor Sewankambo - Flying under the radar this season has been Sewankambo. The Kansas City, Mo. native has been a consistent piece to the Roos sprinting puzzle, recording two sub-7.00 times in the 60 meter dash. Most notably, Sewankambo ran a 6.95 time at the Bob Timmons Challenge. Additionally, Sewankambo competed in the long jump last time out and came away with a 6.48 meter mark in Ames.Â
- Arvesta Schine - Right behind Henry in the 400 meter race at Iowa State was Schine, who recorded a time of 48.14, good for fourth best in Kansas City program history. Additionally, Schine set a career best 6.96 second time in the 60 meter dash in Lawrence a month ago, which ranks 17th in the Summit League this season.Â
- Shavelle Shaw - Leading the way for KC on the women's sprints side has been Shaw. The fifth year senior finished fourth in the women's 200 meter dash with a time of 25.47, good for 15th best in the Summit League. Furthermore, Shaw notched a personal season best 8.08 time in the 60 meter dash at Iowa State last month.Â
- Jaleesa McWashington - McWashington has been a workhorse for the Roos this season, showcasing stellar results in both the 60 meter hurdles, the long jump and the triple jump. McWashington sported a 8.79 second time in the 60 meter hurdles in Ames. McWashington also registered top three marks at Iowa State in both jumping events, 5.65 meters in the long jump and 11.29 meters in the triple jump, both top 10 in the Summit League this season.Â
- Brooke Williams - Aiding McWashington with the jumpers is Williams, who recorded a 11.40 meter mark in the triple jump at ISU. Williams also posted a 59.49 second time in the 400 meter dash and 4.95 meter mark in the long jump. Williams improved from her previous jumping marks to open the season in the Bob Timmons Challenge. Â
The Roos have a short turnaround before their next meet, as Kansas City will be traveling back to Columbia next Friday for the Show-Me-Showdown.Â
