
Roos Deliver Record-Setting Outing at ISU Holiday Invitational

Tory Lanham and Jayden Henry break Kansas City program records in the 200m and 400m dashes
AMES, IOWA - Kansas City Track & Field continued its strong start to the indoor season with multiple records being broken in the men's sprints yet again. Last week, it was Stephen Clunis marking a new KC men's indoor 60 meter dash at 6.66, a time that would be replicated Saturday at Iowa State.Â
The Roos saw a new program best in the men's 200 meter dash as sophomore Tory Lanham took the crown, running a 21.60 in the final heat of the event. Likewise, the 400 meter dash was taken by storm by freshman Jayden Henry, clocking in at 47.71. Overall, Kansas City had 18 top five placements across all events, eight in field events and 10 on the track.Â
TRACK EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- Men's 60m - Kansas City once again flexed their overwhelming speed in the men's 60 meter dash, as four of the top 10 finishers in the preliminary round were Roos. Clunis ran a 6.67 in the first round and tied the school record he set a week ago at 6.66 to take the finals and win the 60m outright. Kenechukwu Okpareke clocked in with a 6.80 time in the first round and finished at 6.74 in the final round to finish second right behind Clunis.Â
- Men's 200m & 400m - Lanham's record-setting time of 21.60 in the 200 meter dash was good for a podium finish of third place in the event. The KC native also broke fellow teammate Logan Pratt's previous school record time of 21.63 which he set last season. Henry's record-setting time of 47.71 in the 400 meter dash was good for second in the event and broke a time that was set by Glenn Hunt of 47.89 in 1999.Â
- Men's 1,000m - Kai White ran hard in the men's 1,000 meter race and was rewarded with a sixth place finish from his time of 2:28.67. The junior distance runner is now second in the Roos all-time leaderboard for the men's indoor 1,000 meter dash.Â
- Women's 60m hurdles - Jaleesa McWashington performed well in the women's 60 meter hurdles, qualifying for the finals with a 8.82 second time in round one. The fifth year veteran bettered her previous time at 8.79 to finish in third place for the event.Â
- Women's 200m - Shavelle Shaw earned a top five placement in the 200 meter dash, clocking in at 25.47, good for fourth in the event. Jayden Lightford followed Shaw up with a sixth place finish in the event and a time of 25.85.Â
FIELD EVENT HIGHLIGHTS
- Women's long jump - McWashington led the way for Kansas City in the women's jumps, recording a leap of 5.65 meters in the fourth round of the women's long jump. McWashington's stellar jump landed her a second top three placement in addition to her top three finish in the women's 60 meter dash. Brooke Williams was second on the Roos in the women's long jump with a bounce of 4.95 meters.Â
- Men's long jump - Nahshon Houston earned first place in the men's long jump, besting eight other competitors in the event. Houston jumped 7.13 meters, just shy of his 7.19 meter mark last week. Miguel Hernadenz also finished inside the top five, registering a jump of 6.54 in the men's long jump. Â
- Women's triple jump - Brooke Williams continued a strong afternoon of jumps with a 11.40 meter mark in the triple jump to come in second place overall in the event and first among all Roos in the competition. McWashigton followed her up with a 11.29 meter jump to place third in the event.  Â
- Men's triple jump - The Roos saw three top five finishers in the men's triple jump, highlighted by Dontez Carr who lept a 13.45 meter triple jump mark to come in second in the event. Houston delivered a 13.29 meter jump to come in third and Hunter Ross jumped a 13.08 meter mark to finish fifth in the event.Â
Kansas City will rest up and recover through the holiday season and compete next at the Alexis Jarrett Invitational in Columbia, Mo. on January 11.
