Briona Woods was clutch from the plate, batting 4-of-4 with three RBI
Kansas City Softball (15-24, 3-5 Summit) blitzed Missouri State (9-25, 5-9 MVC) in the first inning, plating five runs as the Roos put an end to their three game losing streak with an 8-6 win in their final home game of the season. The Roos seemed to bust the game open in the first two innings scoring seven runs on nine hits. Briona Woods put on a hitting clinic, going 4-of-4 with three RBI and a run scored. The Bears tried to rally late, scoring three runs in the top of the 7th inning, but Camryn Stickel re-entered the game and put an end to the threat as she struck out the Bears' batter with runners on second and first base to end the game.Â
KEY MOMENTSÂ
- Bottom 1 / 5-0 | Abby Husak started the Roos' big inning off with a bunt single. Husak was able to advance to 3rd base after another bunt single by Kadin Vire and Lexy Smith singled to center, scoring Husak from third to give the Roos a 1-0 lead. Vire was able to steal third and Smith advanced to second on the throw. Woods then singled to up the middle to score Vire giving the Roos a 2-0 advantage. The Roos base running caused problems for Missouri State as Woods was able to advance to second on the throw and Smith moved to third. The bases were loaded after another bunt single, this time by Espy Daniels. Elleana Navvaro flew out to right field but she was able to make enough contact scoring Smith extending the Roos lead to 3-0. The Roos still were not satisfied though, after a Sydney Nichols ground out, Katie Noble doubled to left field scoring Daniels and Woods extending the lead to 5-0.Â
- Bottom 2 / 7-0 | Just like the first inning, Husak got things started, this time with a single down the left field line. Husak was able to advance to second after a ground out by Vire. Smith knocked in an RBI double to center field, scoring Husak giving the Roos a 6-0 advantage. The scoring did not stop there as the very next batter Woods doubled down the left field line scoring Smith building the Roos lead to 7-0.Â
- Bottom 6 / 8-2 | After being down in the count 1-2 Chloe Kohnhorst singled to right field. Kohnhorst advanced to second after Smith grounded out. Woods continued on with her impressive day as she hit an RBI single to right field bringing in Kohnhorst to give the Roos a 8-2 advantage.
- Top 7 / 8-6 | MIssouri State didn't go away quietly as they were able to get four runs in the top of the seventh, but Stickel was able to put a stop to the Bears rally as she struck out a batter to end the game.Â
