Abby Husak was a rock for the Roos, collecting four hits on the day
OMAHA, Neb. - Kansas City Softball (16-25, 4-7 Summit) responded after a first-game extra inning shutout to claim game two from Omaha (31-10, 8-3 Summit) today. The Mavericks won a pitching duel in the first game, 1-0 in eight innings, but the Roos used a first inning scoring outburst to take game two, 4-3.
Abby Husak had herself a day at the plate, going a combined 4-of-6 from the batter's box, scoring a run and drawing a walk. Lauren Parker showed her defensive prowess, making plays in left field that helped keep Kansas City afloat, and Katie Noble and Camryn Stickel combined to hold the Mavericks to just four runs across 15 innings of play.
GAME ONE KEY MOMENTS
- Top 1 / 0-0 | Abby Husak got things started for Kansas City with a leadoff single and Lexy Smith was hit by a pitch two batters later, but the Roos were unable to take advantage.
- Bottom 4 / 0-0 | Camryn Stickel picked up her fourth strikeout of the day in fourth inning to the game into the fifth inning with a blank score board.
- Bottom 7 / 0-0 | The Mavericks put a runner on third with just one out, but Lauren Parker made back to back plays in left field to send the game into extra innings.
- Top 8 / 0-0 | Parker started extra innings by reaching base on a single, but the Roos were unable to bring her around to score and Omaha would win the game on a walk-off in the bottom of the inning.
GAME TWO KEY MOMENTS
- Top 1 / 3-0 | Kansas City jumped out to an early lead to start the second game, taking advantage of a pair of UNO errors. Husak and Kadin Vire both reached to start the inning, and Smith drove Husak in on a single to center field. Vire scored after Briona Woods forced an error and Smith came in on a sacrifice fly from Elleana Navarro.
- Top 2 / 4-0 | The Roos added to their lead in the second after a double from Lauren Parker snuck past the center fielder. Parker advanced to third on an infield single by Husak and then scored on a sacrifice fly from Vire.
- Bottom 4 / 4-1 | Omaha knocked a two-out triple to the wall to threaten a scoring opportunity, but Noble forced a fly out to Briona Woods in center field to get out of the inning.
- Bottom 7 / 4-3 | The Mavericks scored a pair of runs in the sixth to draw within a run, and put a runner on in the seventh with two outs. Stickel forced a line drive to left field and Parker made a diving play to end the game and secure the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- Parker notched a hit in each game, giving her a three-game hitting streak to tie her career best.
- Omaha committed four errors on the day, compared to none by the Roos.
- Husak had four hits on the day, two in each game. She is now on a six-game hitting streak and has 10 multi-hit games on the season.
