SET-BY-SET VS. North Dakota State
SET ONE / 28-26: Kansas City started the opening set in back and forth fashion with the Bison. North Dakota State shot out to a 12-8 lead thanks to several Roos attack and service errors. Once the set reached its later stages, the Roos capitalized on several massive opportunities, going on a 15-8 run for the rest of the set to take an early advantage over the Bison. Henry, Wattree and Dunford all earned multiple kills in that stretch to put the Roos in the early lead.Â
SET TWO / 23-25: Much of set two felt the same for the Roos and Bison, as both teams traded blows and exchanged runs for the majority of the set's run time. Although NDSU got out to an early lead once again, the Roos clawed back and took a mid-set lead when Deffebaugh set up Wattree for a kill that put the Roos in front 12-11. The Bison fought back to the tune of a 14-11 run across the back half of the set to tie the match up and one win apiece for each side.Â
SET THREE / 25-14: The third set was pure domination for Kansas City as the Roos got out to an early 3-0 lead in the set thanks to kills from Whetstone and Dunford. North Dakota State battled back to take an 8-7 lead but it was short lived as the Roos went on a monster 18-6 point run for the rest of the set. In that span, six different Roos earned kills as Kansas City went up 2-1 in the match.Â
SET FOUR / 23-25: North Dakota State flashed a 10-3 start on the Roos in the early stages of the fourth set. With their backs pushed against the wall, the Roos fought back to force the set down to the wire. The Roos went on a 18-12 run to tie the set up at 22-22. After a timeout break, NDSU was able to finish the job and tie the match up, winning three out of four remaining points.Â
SET FIVE / 10-15: In an action packed final set, the Roos and Bison exchanged punches with Kansas City landing a couple early ones off the backs of Wattree and Whetstone's offensive firepower. The Bison went on to storm into the driver's seat thanks to a 7-2 point run in which they capitalized off several Roo errors. North Dakota State sealed the deal off an Ali Hinze kill, who finished the night with a game high 18 kills, to complete the comeback on Kansas City and win the match 3-2.Â
