The Roos pulled down 61 rebounds, including 22 by Tamia Ugass, but UND pulled away in the second half
GRAND FORKS, N.D. - After playing North Dakota (17-9, 10-6 Summit) close through the first 20 minutes, a slow second half hurt Kansas City Women's Basketball (7-20, 3-13 Summit) this afternoon, falling, 61-39. The Roos were dominant on the boards, but could not translate that into offensive firepower, converting 25 offensive rebounds into 15 second chance points.
The Roos' defense was able to keep North Dakota to its third-lowest scoring output of the year, holding the Summit League's leading scorer, Kacie Borowicz, to just six points. The Roos led after the first quarter and were within three points at the half, but went cold from the floor in the second half.
Tamia Ugass notched her third double-double in the past five games, going for 10 points and 22 rebounds, her second 20-plus rebound game of the season. Manna Mensah pitched in 10 points of her own as the only other Roo to reach double-digits.
KEY MOMENTS
- 1Q - 7:56 / 4-3 | In her second game since returning from injury, Sanaa' St. Andre got on the board and gave Kansas City an early lead by driving the baseline and finishing a layup.
- 1Q - 2:33 / 11-7 | Mensah got out in the fast break and made her second field goal of the afternoon, capping a seven-point KC run. Kansas City held the Fighting Hawks scoreless for over four minutes throughout the stretch.
- 2Q - 8:49 / 16-13 | North Dakota hit a bucket to tie the game up at the start of the second quarter, but Rain Green responded by finishing through a foul and giving the Roos a three-point edge.

- 2Q - 1:40 / 23-26 | The Fighting Hawks jumped out to a lead, but back-to-back buckets by Mensah kept KC within striking distance. The two field goals would prove to be Mensah's last points of the game.
- 3Q - 6:13 / 29-37 | UND opened the second half on a seven-point run, but Jocelyn Ewell put an end to the run by pulling down an offensive board and going up for a second chance bucket. However, KC would not score for the next six minutes and UND would expand its lead to 14 by the end of the quarter.
- 4Q - 9:19 / 34-45 | St. Andre hit her first three-pointer of the game to open up the final frame, bringing the Roos within 11. It would be the final field goal the Roos made on the night and North Dakota would take the win.
STATS TO NOTE
- Ugass had 10 rebounds by the end of the first quarter, and had already notched a double-double by the end of the first half. Her two 20-rebound performances this season make her the first Roo to reach that mark twice in the same season in the past 20 years.
- The Roos pulled down a season-high 61 rebounds on the afternoon, the most by a Summit League team this season and most by KC since Dec. 2, 2021.
- Kansas City held the Fighting Hawks to just 33.8% shooting on the game, their second-lowest field goal percentage this season. However, the Roos were just 14-of-68 from the field for a 20.6% clip.
