Kansas City Beats UT Martin to Split the First Day of Tournament

The Roos pick up their second win of the season after a late bases-loaded hit-by-pitch
EVANSVILLE, Ind. – Kansas City (2 - 5) locked in their second win of the season beating UT Martin (1 -2), 3-2. Earlier in the day, the Roos fell in a high scoring matchup against (4 -1) Evansville. The Roos' first home run of the season from Amelia Fitzgerald and six strikeouts from Camryn Stickel ultimately gave them edge over the Sky Hawks.

- Top 2 / 1 – 0 | A single from Sydney Nichols, followed by an Aces walk, gave the Roos players on first and second. Fitzgerald hit a fielder's choice, giving the Aces an out at second but allowed Nichols to third. Lauren Parker singled one up the left, documenting a Nichols run that put the Roos on the board first. In the bottom of the inning, Evansville responded by adding three runs and taking the lead.
- Top 3 / 2 – 3 | Kansas City had two outs, but the Roos were able to make something off a single up the middle from Ally Vonfeldt. Nichols smashed a double to bring Vonfeldt home and brought the Roos within one.
- Bottom 3 / 2 – 6 | An Evansville home run added three to the score with players on first and third.
- Top 4 / 4 – 6 | A series of errors allowed runs from Katherine Karnatz and Kiki McCrea bringing the Roos within two.
- Bottom 4 / 4 – 6 | The bases were loaded, but a Kansas City double play from Smith to Fitzgerald to Noble gets the outs at home and first, allowing Kansas City to close the inning. Evansville responded with two runs in the bottom of the fifth and extended their lead to eight.
- Top 7 / 6 – 11 | The Aces added another three runs in the bottom of the fifth. In the top of the following inning with one out, Nobel and Vonfeldt add another run each for the Roos.
- Nichols, Fitzgerald and Noble notched four put-outs a piece for the Roos.
- The Roos scored six runs, tying their season high achieved against Georgia State on Feb. 10. Kansas City also put up nine hits, matching their season high from Feb. 10 against Florida International.
- McCrea had three hits for the Roos, this was only the second time in her career she has documented three or more hits in one game.
- Jenna Milan doubled her previous season high with two strikeouts against Evansville.
- Top 1 / 0 – 0 | Stickle struck out the side in the first four batters to face the Roos.
- Bottom 3 / 2 – 0 | Fitzgerald hit a homerun down the line to give Kansas City the first lead of the game. A single up the middle from Lexy Smith brought Karnatz home for a two-run lead. UT responded in the top of the fourth with back-to-back home runs to tie the game.
- Bottom 6 / 3 – 2 | The Roos load the bases with two outs, Karnatz was hit by a pitch and brings in a run, putting the Roos back in the lead.
- Top 7 / 3 – 2 | Three quick outs gave Kansas City the win over the Sky Hawks.
- Stickle struck out six batters in the four innings she played. Three of those strikeouts were marked in the first inning where she struck out the side.
- The Fitzgerald home run in the bottom of the third was the first home run for the Roos this season. This was Fitzgerald's first home run as a Roo, posting six last season at Upper Iowa.
- In her second appearance of the season Bailey Brumley had no hits in the three innings she pitched.
