Season In Review
- The Roos earned their first win of the season on their home court, drubbing Southern Illinois on Nov. 14. KC held the Salukis to 16.7% shooting in the first half and sparked a 10-game winning streak. The Salukis are currently 20-7 overall and poised to take the top seed in the Missouri Valley.
- On Nov. 18, the Roos took down Wyoming, holding the Cowgirls to just 44 points. Brooklyn McDavid and Kiara Bradley each posted double-doubles in the win.
- The Roos' third win of the season came against former WAC foe Grand Canyon, sprinting to an 89-62 win. Kansas City out-rebounded the Antelopes by 18, leading from start to finish. Mandy Willems knocked home a season-high six threes on the day while McDavid pitched in 29 points.
- KC started a four-game road trip with a 14-point win against Dixie State on Nov. 24, pulling down 46 rebounds and scoring 11 second chance points.
- Kansas City took a commanding win over Grambling State on Nov. 27, highlighted by an eight-point, 12-rebound, six-assist performance from Paige Bradford.
- A strong fourth quarter led the Roos past UT-Arlington on Nov. 28, with Naomie Alnatas scoring 38 points, her second-career 35-plus point game. She shot 6-of-7 from three-point range on the day. The Mavs would go on to beat 13th-ranked South Florida just four days later.
- The Roos used a quick start to run past Tennessee State on Dec. 12, securing the best 10-game start in program history at 9-1. McDavid nabbed her fifth double-double of the year, finishing with 18 points and 12 boards.
- The Roos tied a program record with their 10th-straight win and finished non-conference play 10-1 with a win over Santa Clara. KC's logged a season-high 14 steals, led by five-each from Alnatas and Bradley.
- After an 18-day COVID hiatus, Kansas City earned its first conference win of the season at Omaha, led by 22 points each from Alnatas and McDavid.
- Kansas City dominated the paint in a Jan. 18 win over Denver, outscoring the Pioneers 42-18 in the lane.
- The Roos drew to .500 in conference play with a comeback victory over North Dakota State, outscoring the Bison 25-10 in the fourth quarter.
- After a season-long five-game road trip, the Roos returned to winning fashion at the Swinney Center, defeating Denver by 18 points. Alnatas dropped 23 points and nine assists, while Dani Winslow contributed six points, eight rebounds and two blocks off the bench.
- The Roos grabbed an overtime victory over Omaha on Jan. 29, led by a career-high 16 rebounds from Bradford.
- KC notched three-straight fourth quarter comebacks from Jan. 31 through Feb. 5, defeating WIU twice and St. Thomas once. Alnatas notched her first-career triple-double on Feb. 5 against WIU and averaged 27.0 points across the three-game stretch.
- The Roos earned revenge against Oral Roberts on Feb. 12, with Sanaa' St. Andre pitching in a season-high 10 points.
- Bradford posted her third double-double of the year with a season-high 19 points and 10 rebounds as the Roos defeated St. Thomas for their 20th win.
- Kansas City outscored North Dakota 29-13 in the fourth quarter of their revenge-seeking win. McDavid finished with 29 points, including 21 in the second half.
- The Roos earned a Senior Day win over North Dakota State, shooting 50% from three-point land.
- Alnatas and McDavid each earned First Team All-Summit honors, becoming the first duo in program history to do so in the same season.
- Alnatas has been named First Team All-League twice, joining Ericka Mattingly as the only Roo to do so.
- McDavid became the third Roo to win Newcomer of the Year, the first since Chazny Morris in 2006-07.
Notable Stats
- With 22 wins, the Roos have tied the 2011-12 team for second-most wins in program history and are just two wins behind the 1991-92 Roos for the most all-time.
- Jacie Hoyt is the first coach in program history to notch two 20-win seasons. Prior to her arrival five seasons ago, KC had two 20-win seasons in program history.
- With 12 Summit League wins, the Roos have recorded the most wins in their Summit League membership. The 1991-92 and 2011-12 teams had each won 11.
- The Roos were ranked in the CollegeInsider Women's Mid-Major Poll for the first time in program history this season, reaching as high as No. 20.
- The Roos have notched two separate nine-game winning streaks this season, a feat only accomplished by three other teams in the nation. The only other teams to reach that mark are Liberty, South Carolina and NC State.
- The Roos have been dominant in the fourth quarter, outscoring opponents by an average of 4.3 points in the final frame this season. The Roos have notched seven fourth quarter comebacks on the year, including six in conference play.
- The Roos are one of the top three-point shooting teams in the nation, ranking top-65 in threes per game (7.2; 62nd) and three-point percentage (35.6%; 28th).
- The Roos are difficult to beat on the boards, out-rebounding opponents 21 times and posting a 19-2 record in such games. The Roos average rebounding margin of plus-6.6 is 34th-best in the nation.
- In wins, Kansas City averages 37.7% three-point shooting on 19.8 attempts. In losses, that percentage drops to 29.7% on 22.1 attempts.
- Efficiency is key for the Roos on the offensive end. When they shoot the ball at a higher percentage than their opponents, they are 15-0 on the season.
- When McDavid hits the 20-point mark, it's a good sign for the Roos. She has scored 20-plus eight times, translating to eight KC wins.
- McDavid averages 15.8 points per game, good for sixth best in the Summit. She has made 186 field goals at a 50.7% clip, both top-60 nationally.
- Alnatas leads the Summit League and ranks 29th nationally, averaging 5.3 assists per game. She is currently poised for the second-best average in program history, behind just Ericka Mattingly's 6.0 assist per game average in 2018-19.
- Alnatas averages 6.5 field goals per game, which ranks top-30 nationally and would be the best in program history.
- Alnatas is one of just 27 players this season to notch a triple-double and was the first Summit League player since 2017-18 to accomplish that feat.
- Bradley ranks second in the Summit with a 35.2 minute per game average, and did not leave the floor for 170-straight minutes from Jan. 29 through Feb. 5.
- Willems has made 66 triples this season, two shy of cracking the program single-season top-ten. Her 35.5% three-point shooting ranks second in the league.
- Bradford averaged 9.4 points and 8.7 rebounds in conference play, logging a pair of double-doubles. She also ranks first among forwards in the Summit in assists per game, averaging 2.4 per game.
