Four Roos dropped double-digit points, led by Rain Green with 20
KANSAS CITY, Mo. - Kansas City Women's Basketball opened the 2022-23 season on a high note, running past Westminster, 91-49. Rain Green led the way in her Roo-debut, dropping a game-high 20 points on 9-of-12 shooting and adding eight assists.Â
KEY MOMENTS
- 1Q / 6-0 | It took less than a minute for the Roos to jump out to a six-point lead following an opening basket by E'Lease Stafford, then back-to-back steal and scores by Sanaa' St. Andre and Rain Green. A five-point run by the Blue Jays would bring them back into the game.
- 1Q / 19-16 | After a Westminster miss with less than 10 seconds on the clock, Dani Winslow pulled down the rebound and found Green, who drove the middle of the court and hit a floater from the free throw line as time expired.
- 2Q / 24-16 | The Roos opened the second quarter on a five-point run, capped by a second chance bucket by Sanaa' St. Andre, pulling down a RaVon Nero miss and going right back up for her second basket of the day.
- 2Q / 35-25 | Following an offensive rebound by Winslow, Stafford used a screen from Jocelyn Ewell to drive the left side of the basket and pull up for a jump shot, extending KC's lead out to 10.

- 3Q / 48-32 | St. Andre drove all the way to the basket and put a layup in the hoop, drawing a foul for an and-one opportunity. She missed the free throw, but Machia Mullens was there to clean up the glass and put it back, extending the lead to 16.
- 3Q / 53-36 | Nero got her second field goal of the day, taking a hand off from St. Andre and quickly changing direction, driving to the hoop for a reverse lay-in.
- 3Q / 61-42 | Trinity Moreland notched her first-career points, taking a pass from Green and turning over her right shoulder for a hook shot that gave KC its largest lead of the day heading into the fourth quarter.
- 4Q / 70-43 | A nine-point Kansas City run was capped with a flair, as Moreland blocked a Bluejay shot, which Zaire Harrell saved from going out of bounds. Green recovered the ball, running the fast break and using a behind-the-back pass to find Stafford for an easy bucket.
