KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Kansas City senior Halle Hamilton had a career day as she helped propel the Roos (5-0-2) to a 4-0 women's soccer victory over visiting Northern Iowa (3-3-0) tonight at Durwood Soccer Stadium. The 2019 Preseason All-WAC selection notched her first two career goals and added an assist to post a career-high five points tonight.
"This was a very good performance both offensively and defensively," said head coach Chris Cissell. "I thought we possessed the ball extremely well and we were able to come up with another shutout. The other exciting thing was being able to score four goals against a quality opponent. I was so happy to see three different players score their first-ever collegiate goal tonight!"
Two other Roos also had memorable moments on the offensive end. Sophomore Sarah Karloff and freshman Morgan McLaughlin each compiled their first career goal. Adding to the offensive outburst was All-American Rylan Childers with two more assists, pushing her season total to four and league-best 12 points.
Hamilton's first marker occurred in the 38th minute thanks to some nifty footwork. She took a sideline pass from Childers, beat a defender on the right side of the box, and hung a shot in the right corner pocket of the net.
Leading 1-0 at the half, the Roos' offense continued to attack the Northern Iowa zone. Just 41 seconds into the second half, Karloff gave Kansas City a 2-0 lead. Her goal was assisted by Hamilton.
Hamilton added her second goal, in the 55th minute, after she took a rebound on a Childers shot on goal. McLaughlin added some insurance with her goal in the 80th minute, which was assisted by Hayden Burnett.
The defense continued their dominating season performance pitching its fourth shutout in seven matches. Sophomore goalkeeper Afton Fennewald improved to 3-0-1 on the year with three saves in 90 minutes. She faced 10 shots overall.
The Kansas City offense ended with a season-high 24 shots and 14 shots-on-goal. Childers led the way with seven total shots and four on-target.
