
Roos and Jackrabbits Tie in Exhibition

KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- In the 2019 Kick-Off Weekend opener for Kansas City Athletics, the Roos and South Dakota State Jackrabbits played to a 2-2 draw in regulation. The women's soccer match ended without overtime since it was an exhibition. Senior Halle Hamilton pulled Kansas City even in the 85th minute on a shot that found the back left portion of the net, off a double feed from Ruth Fiander and Lindsey Prokop.
"It was great to get an exhibition match for the Soccer Family in front of such a great crowd and atmosphere," said ninth-year head coach Chris Cissell. "Thank you to the fans for their great support. We were able to play all of our players in tonight's match so that was a great experience for them and gave our coaching staff a really good indication of where we are right now and what things we need to work on this week leading into our season opener next Friday."
South Dakota State got on the board first in the 12th minute with Gabrielle Viver-Hannay assisting on Carina McLennan's goal. That score stood heading into halftime.
Prokop's marker in the 52nd minute, with an assist from sophomore All-American Rylan Childers tied the match at 1-1 apiece.
South Dakota State's Abigail Kastens put the guests back on top in the 55th minute, this time with an assist from Maya Hansen.
The two-time defending conference champions host Indiana State on Friday, Aug. 23 in the regular-season opener at Durwood Stadium at 7 p.m. CST. Kansas City set a school record last year with a 16-5-0 overall record.
