MILWAUKEE -- Kansas City Men's Basketball (1-3) dropped it's third-straight contest with tonight's 61-52 loss at Milwaukee (3-1) at the UWM Panther Arena. A 22-6 scoring run by Milwaukee to open the second half put the game out of reach for the Roos. Senior Rob Whitfield scored a season-high 10 points and junior Brandon McKissic also finished with 10 in the scoring column. Senior Javan White again had an all-around solid performance with seven points, nine rebounds, two blocks, two assists and two steals.
The Roos, playing their second game in three days, showed some promise and grit in the final five minutes of the contest. Trailing 58-43 with 4:28 remaining, Kansas City locked down and limited the Panthers to three free throws the rest of the way. Offensively, McKissic scored two lay-ups and a pair of free throws as part of a game-ending 9-3 game-spurt.
"We need to play tougher, and again, have more resiliency when shots are not falling," said head coach Billy Donlon. "Our team will grow from this and be excited to be back home Monday."
In the first half, Milwaukee led by as much as seven, but an inside bucket by senior Jahshire Hardnett tied it all up at 16-16 at the 6:48 mark. Josh Thomas connected on a 3-pointer at the end of the half to stake the Panthers to a 26-22 half-time lead. The Roos kept things close in spite of shooting just 31 percent in the first 20 minutes.
A dunk by White out of the break got things going for Kansas City, but Te'Jon Lucas got hot for Milwaukee scoring back-to-back baskets as part of an 8-0 run and Kansas City really never got back into it.
The Kansas City defense forced 17 turnovers that led to 20 points off of those turnovers.
Milwaukee held a 44-38% field goal percentage advantage. Both teams made seven three-pointer's.
Four Milwaukee players reached at least 10 points in the game, led by Te'Jon Lucas with 15 points, 10 assists and six rebounds, all team-highs.
Kansas City comes home Monday for a non-conference game against Bacone at 7 p.m. at the Swinney Center.
